An alternative with an open trailer: * Seal off the open floor with either plywood or aluminium * Construct a V shaped barrier at the front end of the trailer to deflect the road grime, stones, etc., etc.,

Niles;

Went to the Gulf Coast Regional Mustang Show in Pensacola,Fl. this weekend.... Got lucky and placed third in the 65/66 Coupe & Fastback occasional Driver division...Plenty of great cars and there was CSX 2397 there also....Looked for the owner but never found him.Also one superformance was in the show and I saw two other cobra's cruising the University Mall lot there Saturday but they were not entered.....

Great time,but slow go,six hour trip shoulda been about five without womend and kids with small bladders and one F-250 diesel pulling a 24' enclosed trailer getting a whopping 8/9 mpg. Actually out of our caravan,my Mustang did the best for fuel mileage getting 23.3 mpg on the trip,almost 700 miles round trip....

Southern;

I want 20k for the car. I did not sell it there,but have two very interested people and one "gotta get the wife's approval first".One guy that saw it called a buddy in Orlando and described the car while standing in front of it and the guy in Orlando called me on my cell phone later that day very interested and asked me to e-mail pics and specs to him......

Problem is now I had so much fun on the trip I'm having second thoughts..... Half way there we stopped for breakfast and a 13 year old with us was just absolutley ga ga over my car,I told his dad while he was using the "facilitys" if it was o-k with him I'd love to have his son ride "shotgun" with me the rest of the way,he could not beleive I'd do that with a kid I'd only met 2 hours earlier,said that would make his day as well as the boy's. When we finished breakfast and were getting ready to hit the road I told Tommy I needed a co-pilot and asked if he would like the job,he about fell over and when he looked at his dad and his dad gave him the o-k nod,it took him 2.3 seconds to run across the parking lot and jump in. Showed him how to buckle the racing seats belts and off we went. The next two hours he never stopped talking about how cool it is to ride in a classic like mine and when we stopped again for gas and bathroom he did not want to get out..... The next day his dad told me how much he apreciated what I had done and how it made his son's trip. I told him I probably enjoyed having him with me more than he enjoyed the ride. Dad also said he stayed up half the nite just talking about the ride to Florida and how he"ll never forget it. Once there he took a bunch of pictures of Tommy in my car with me and then I got out and told him to slip in behind the wheel for more pictures,you could not believe the grin on that kids face the rest of the weekend....Leaving Sunday morning I told his dad seeing how much he enjoyed the ride meant more to me than my trophy I won at the show. With that we loaded up and headed out. Tommy took another roll of film of my car and me in it will driving down the interstate home,I'm sure next week everyone at his school will have seen all the pics.....

Weekends like that make all the hard work and skint knuckles I put into that car seem very worthwhile now.Hope to continue having weekends like that for a very long time...........

Neal; Thanks for the kind words,had a ball with that kid....You know at the show I noticed very few young people there with cars,I think we need to include kids like this in our events and bring them whenever possible and get them interested in these old cars.... I know this kid has the "bug" now.... When we are old and in the nursing home,there has to be someone to keep these old cars going............Besides it is a lot more fun when you share the weekend fun with someone that really enjoys it and wants to learn more about it....

David,

Great story and you are 110% correct! Kids love nice looking cars.

While driving in my Cobra I think I've gotten more "thumbs up" from kids, both male and female, in the 6-15 age group than from any other group ... and all I ever did was just drive by!

There are generations following us ... and they are interested!

Default Thanks!

This is extremely helpful, guys!
I'm *thinking* about getting a tow-capable vehicle and, if so, was thinking that an open rig with decent water-proof cover would save me the dousing I've experienced taking the cobra cross-country (can you say "VIR"?).
WRONG!
OK, so I've looked at the "tow" links here and still wonder if there are enclosed rigs that one could rent a few times a year and still come out ahead over outright buying one...
Ideas?
