Damn things are everywhere!!!
This past weekend I was in a little village just outside Cambridge, England filming a marketing video for a software company. I had my camera set up to shoot a shot of the VP of engineering driving into the parking lot of the companys headquarters. In my viewfinder I'm watching as he pulls out into traffic, heading towards me. Wouldn't you know, he pulls out in front of a COB Cobra! Now I'm faced with the choice of either watching the Cobra or panning my camera with the VP, like I'm suppose to do. Since my trip to England was being funded by the software company, I did the right thing and stayed with the VP. Still, I wish I could have taken a closer look at the COB as it drove past me.

I am constantly amazed at how few cobras I see on the road. I know there are a ton of cobras in southern california, but I only see one a month or so driving around. Unless you go to a cruise or show. I see T-buckets and 32 coupes driving around more fequently. Common guys, put some miles on them, that's why they were built and that's why you bought them. Stone chips are a sign of enjoyment.

I put nearly 200 miles on mine this last weekend!
I would have driven the Cobra to work today but they were calling for thunderstorms ... rain I can take, but a good midwestern thunderstorms is usually of Biblical proportions!

Actually, the Cobra sightings here are pretty rare also. I chuckle when I'm with a group of gear heads and "the Cobra sightings" conversation comes up.
I saw a blue one in Hawaii Kai, you see it? Nah, but I spotted a yellow on the North Shore last year. I heard theres a blue on the windward side? HA HA!!!!!!
Well,,,,you'd think these cars are legendary or something.

Perhaps you can clear something up for me... I thought that kit cars were not legal in Hawaii. So how is it that Cobras are ok?

IT'S A FRIGGIN NIGHTMARE OVER HERE!!!!
It's not that their "illegal", but their subject to "inspection" that is all but IMPOSSIBLE to pass because the "rules" seem to fluctuate from one DMV office to another. There are ways to get the job done, some better than others, but none are "pretty".
Makes a STRONG case for an Excalibur with that fancy little FEDERAL sticker thingy that comes with it!

Sometime in April I may be in a position to get "serious" about buying #2. I will be asking, nay, REQUIRING some very tough answers about VIN numbers, current title, past title history, etc.

Don't know about the rest of you, or where you live, but within a 30 mile radius of my home, I personally know of at least two originals, and over a dozen replicas.........Some of the folks are here, others are not............

We currently have over 132 Cobras in our club (Great Lakes Cobra Club) plus with the other ones that aren't in the club, there are quite a few to see from time to time. Last year at the Woodward Dream Cruise we had over 80 parked in Birmingham. When you see them like that, it almost seems like they are a dime a dozen.

COB were British cars and COX were European export cars, and all were AC's, not Shelbys. Same as CSX cars, just went to differnt parts of the world. Generally not worth as much.

COB is the AC Cars equivalent of Shelby American's CSX serial number prefix. All original Cobra bodies and chassis were manufactured by AC in England. The ones bound for the US to be finished and sold as Shelby Cobras had serial #'s beginning with CSX. The ones completed by AC for sale in the UK (with parts and drivetrains supplied by Shelby American) had serial numbers beginning with COB. They are more than "accurate". They are every bit as much an original Cobra as the ones sold by Shelby. They are "AC Cobras" as opposed to "Shelby Cobras". Having said all that, I think the new Cobras sold by AC also carry the COB number and the pedigree and status of some of the various incarnations is highly debatable.

I understand some of the COBS are fiberglass these days? But then again, some of the Shelby CSX cars are glass too.
Thus the confusion over "original", "real" etc. I'll put my can opener down now and not let the worms out.........

We drive our Cobras up here in Northern Calif. when the weather is nice and people are always asking where we are going. I guess when SB-708 passes the answer will be a mass migration to another state. Roswell, New Mexico looks good and so does Montana. I looked at their DMV site the other day and I think it was from $30 to $70 dollars to register a car there. So come on up and watch the roads around here on any nice day and you will see some Cobras out prowling around.
