1 down, 4 more to go... it lives... (photo)
Hi guys,
Just fired it up yesterday. Still working on the fuel map and ignition curve with the laptop but it should be on the road this weekend
Now I can finally get back to the big block Cobras in the garage

Mike,
That's a beautiful chunk of machinery! Isn't the tunnel port an extremely rare piece? I would, for one, love to hear the story of how you acquired this icon of NASCAR racing.

Uh, guys, isnt that a 289/302/351W small block Ford engine in the picture? I cant see, at the left front of the engine, where the intake manifold is under the valve cover like an FE. I may be mistaken, but I would like to see other pictures, please!

sure is a smallblock. Ford did build a limited number of tunnelport heads for smallblocks. I doubt this eng has them. I have only seen 2 pairs in my brief life.

Hi Guys,
The engine is a 351W. The Cobra belongs to a buddy of mine, but my 504" tunnel port will have the same induction. I'm building the manifold at this time. I have 3 more Cobras to finish before I can finish mine

Thanks Brent , or whoever for fixing my gallary pic.
here's a picture of a tunnel port fuel injection set up, I think made from a tunnel port 2x4 bbl intake.

Mike, which intake are you using to make your tunnel port FI out of?
Who's building it?

Hi David,
Your tunnel port intake looks very similar to the photos I have seen of the intake used on Shelby's Can-Am car.
I am building my own intake pretty much the way that your intake was built. I cut the plenum area out of a single plane 2X4 intake and I'm making a pattern to cast 4 flanges angled at 8 degrees to mount TWM/Weber 58mm throttle bodies. If the flanges come out well I'll cast some extras and offer them to anyone else crazy enough to try to build their own EFI tunnel port The work is going slower than I'd hoped because of all the other Cobra work I'm doing at this time but as it progresses I'll post photos

SFfiredog HI Mike. My computor had a worm and was hacked into from the outside. Cost 100.00$ to fix. When you build those intakes keep me in mind. I want to put 58's on my car after the 484 crank kit and dry sump. I am looking for a medium riser not a TP. In a year or two I may have different heads on my motor. Did you look at the engine master challenge for big blocks. I think the FE would have a good chance, it's in Hot Rodding or Hot Rod. A 454 FE sounds nice. Oh I have one. I figure it will take 700 hp to win the contest. Got to go Rick Lake

Hi Rick,
I just got my magazine in the mail with the rules for the PHR big block challange. I would love to build an FE for the challange but I hate to say a 460 problably would have a better chance, at least money wise. If I had the big bucks I could definately build an FE that would give the big boys a run for their money.I am seriously talking with some of the local Ford nuts here in the S.F. bay area to see if we can gather enough parts together to do this thing (FE or 460).
My main concern is paying for enough dyno time to try differnet combinations. A 470ci FE with 700 hp would make a hell of a Cobra engine though!

Hey Mike I know we can BORROW someones motor, maybe D.S.,T.W, or Turks. We will have to drop the cranks to get the cubes right. I figure a long stroke with a 4.25 bore should get the job done. Heads are up for grabs, plus we get the stock rocker arms at 1.72 or 1.73, that's and edge. Build it on computor then build the motor. Glidden or Kuntz can do the heads, the rest is easy. Got to go, I am getting silly. Rick Lake
