Default Type of paint used on car

I wanted to throw this out. When your car was painted did any of you use Lacquer? I know this is old school but it has a certain appearance (patina?). Lacquer has not been available in much of California for some time. How about in your area?

Thumbs up

Hey Rick,
I had the cobra painted with PPG basecoat/ clearcoat. That is the way most cars are done now, lots of advances in paint technology in the last few years. I had my old motorcycle painted in laquer, looked good, but way too much work and trouble especially with latest paints.
Good luck,
Perry.

Rick,

I spent a couple years of my young life shooting nitro-laguer. Its true there is nothing like it. you almost cant screw it up.drip your gun on it, oh well, wipe it off with your finger, lay it on wet, and rub it out for a deeeep shine you just cant get any other way.chip your paint ,no biggiea little sanding ,a couple of minutes with the gun ,and rub it out till you cant find it any more. There are several problems with it though , your prep primer needs to sit 3-4 weeks, It is quick drying but you cant fill the smallest crack without it eventually shrinking in over time , we used to shoot ten to fifteen coats for show finish. it is soft and dosnt last long out in the weather .

v.o.c. laws are also what killed it although if you know the right people you can still get it , and you can turn out a show finish in your garage with it for $300 and more sanding and buffing than you really want to do!
