I agree with Jeff.
I only read 10% of all the posts on CC. I don't call any of it a waste.

Someone opened a thread sometime ago about CS's charity. It is a matter of public record that was brought forth as to how much money is collected and how much actually went to help sick kids.....If my memory is anywhere correct the numbers were something like this, out of your $25.00 donation for his signature,$3.75 was actually used to benefit someone or for some research, the rest was for "administrative cost". I'd like to know who's administrative got the $21.25 bucks.....
As for mud slinging and bashing goes CS started this whole pile of stinking do do. I have seen him at least 6 or 8 times on tv and read that many or more articles in varouis car mags where all he did was bash the replica manufacteres, especially FFR,sometimes using some very nice cuss words to boot..... Ever follow him around at a SAAC meet and see what he rambles on about to anyone who'll listen???? If that's not enough to make you dislike him, then nothing will.... He was a good driver and built some great cars in his day,his day has long been gone,he should retire with grace and enjoy his legendary status instead of making a fool of himself....
Did you know many Cobra's sat on dealer showroom floors for a full 2 years before being sold..... Some dealers were begging people to come take them off there hands and when they got rid of them they surely did not want anymore..... After CS's infamous "fire sale" he hauled butt to South Africa and abandoned evrything and everyone over here for some time.... Quite a guy......

OK, my turn, can anybody guess what I am going to say?
How about the bull$hit completion series of cars. Found old frames leftover in the wharehouse that were sitting there for 25 years and decided to complete them?
The frames, bodies and many other parts were brand new. There are some poor saps thet paid upwards of $500,000 for these totally fake cars. Can't even drive them legally in California.
As I have said before, he is a criminal and a first class liar and should have been placed in jail for that. Its called fraud.
Just the facts, sorry.

Having not read the first 100 pages of this thread, if this is repetition, please excuse.
Part of the difficulty of assessing CS is his propensity to...uh...how does one say it....uh....lie. In Texas it's often called stretching the truth and is nearly always used to describe...well...Texas. Hence, to separate the man and the myth takes analysis of untold cubic yards of BS, most of it propagated by the man himself.
Case in point is the current ad for GasEx or whatever the fuel additive is that CS is hyping. It begins with the allocade that "Carroll Shelby is at the top of the food chain of automotive pioneers". So much for for Henry Ford and Harley Earl. Then comes ole Shel with the statement that he has "built over 100 models of cars" in his time, his newest is the Series 1 and in each and every one goes a pint of Gashaul, or whatever.
A typical case of egomaniacal bluster that he's become famous for. While it's true that he may have caused to be built over 100 models of the SAME car, when used in the context "my most recent the Series 1" it would indicate that he had built 100 DIFFERENT models of cars. Doubtful, even if you give him the hotrods he built in his acne years.
I've always said he was a much better driver than car inovator, and wasn't much of a car builder at all, and should recieve credit for his past driving skill. Most of the other stuff of "legend" is pure crap and propaganda, and is much like Bill Clinton's "legacy"

This group bares a strong resemblance to Fighter Pilots. Everyone one of them knows HE is better, knows more and shoots quicker, has a faster car than any other pilot in the whole squadron, the world or the universe, lol.

This thread is getting silly.
For those that think CS is not an automotive legend they must believe in revisionist history.

LAWYERS? I DON'T NEED NO STINKING .....
Evan,
A while back, a friend of mine was ripped off to the tune of $20,000 by a large national corporation. They had attorneys on staff and a reputation of fully contesting every lawsuit. You know how it goes.
"You can sue us, but we have our own lawyers. You'll spend more than $20K on legal fees."
I took my friend to the book store and made him buy the Nolo Press book on how to sue in Superior Court. It cost about twenty dollars. How to you spell "in pro per"? The lawyers kept trying to get my friend to hire council.
The corporation caved at the deposition (for more than $20,000). It was fun. I guess those guys were billing internally!

Sometimes when the issues are simple and the facts clear with no difficult legal issues many will try to handle the matter pro se.
Many times insurance companies and other corporations knowing the cost of litigation and counsel fees do try to take advantage of that fact. In New Jersey if the facts are clear and the redress is clearly owing hiring an attorney may actually put pressure on the company to settle since you can seek cost and fees for a frivilous defense on top of the damages you are owed.

You Sir, may have a point!
However, the only way my friend could stand up to them was to represent himself as fees would have quickly exceeded the dollar amount involved. By slowing down the process, and dragging everything out (Sound familiar, yet?), we did to them exactly what they threatened my friend with. We took their ace out of the game and it was FUN running up THEIR legal bills!
The best part was telling my friend to hold out for more than $20,000. After all, our time was worth something, right?
I forgot what this thread was about! Unless you believe that Carroll's own actions had nothing to do with any negitive perceptions others may have about him, he must get most of the credit for whatever anti-Shelby sentiment exists.

Getting silly
This thread was silly to begin with! We should start a newbie forum that after a certain number of posts, you can not access and until you pass that number you can not leave
