How to rune your first test drive....
How to rune your first test drive.
After month's of hard work on the Cobra, I get to go for my first test drive and what happens, I run over my friend's dog . Talk about a downer, I was only doing about 15mhp. sad to say the dog didn't make it. Not a good way to start out .

Mike,
That is a downer. How did that happen?
Don't let your neighbor know your handle on this site. They may want you to change it to mention dogs.
You can only go up from where you began.
Sorry to hear about the accident.

Sorry to hear about the dog but look at it this way...
Now you won't have to stress about that first scratch, dent or accident happening.

Mike,
Sounds like natural selection at work!
Sorry for your mishap but trust me, driving a Cobra is usually much more enjoyable.
Cheers, Pete

Mike,
Tough way to start out but don't let it get you down. You never did anything wrong. I had a squirell run into my side pipes once while driving about 35 MPH and I felt bad about it but there was nothing that I could have did as he just ran right out of the brush and into the side pipe and then under the right rear wheel. Just put it out of mind and enjoy the car.

Mike, I have had the misfortune of accidently running over a person in my F-100. He was drunk and stepped in front of my truck at about 35mph. It made a hell of a noise and scared the s#*t out of me. Still doesnt feel good to run over anything.

I have run over a number of pets and animials in the past 40+ years. Always a bit sad, that a "dumb" animal can be in the wrong place at the right time.
However, when i run over copperheads and the like, i just smirk when i think of the small animals that will live another day.
Sorry about your incident.

Mike,
Truly sorry to hear about your accident. But then, maybe it wasn't an accident. It could be that the dog just decided to commit suicide and your car was the first one handy....
In any case, better luck in the future.

Only dog / car interaction I was involved with, the dog came running out into the street at full speed and smashed into the passenger door of my mother's Volvo. Dog died upon impact, door skin needed replacing. I was in he passenger seat when it happened.

Hi Mike,
Sorry to hear about your misfortune the first time out.....You did not do anything wrong.........sometimes hard to figure out a dogs thought process.
One of my buddies...unnamed but we'll call him TS. picked up his brand new totally awesome Cobra....put his girl friend in the car......THE THROTTLE STUCK WIDE OPEN......hit a curb went airborn 9-10 feet hit a tree in the air- it is now dead- the tree.
Both people were fine, nobody hurt but the 90 second old Cobra had to get a reset/restart/rebuild. The girlfriend is still in his life....great lady !!!!! and when she found out that my wife drives our Cobra wanted to know when she can get behind the wheel of the now back together Black beast.

Tony,
What a story! I thought I had some wild rides, but I never climbed a tree in my car.

Hi Rallysnake.......
True story , I forwarded the link to TS...and he all for me NOT encouraging the girlfriend to drive the car.....doesn't want it wrecked again.
He walked away from the Cobra and tree mess went to the guy who built it for him and with steam coming out of his ears said
" FIX IT !!!!"

Tony,
This is funny. I was just chatting with TS about meeting you and Joe Saturday and told him I had told Joe about his first ride and that he had killed the tree. And you are correct. He wants to wreck the car himself. HA !!
It was a pleasure to finally get to meet all of you Saturday. I have known Terry since he started his Green Flash but the rest were just names.

RallySnake,
You might be right about the suicide, the dog's owner said it was the fifth time the dog was hit by a car!

I've heard that accidents of this type can take a real BITE out of your horsepower, turning your Cobra into a real POOCH...
I know its a lame attempt at humor, but I am DOG tired.

That is a horrible story. You must have felt awful. Hopefully, you got all of the bad luck out of the way on the first day.
