Default One more time -- BLACK slabside

I couldn't resist...

OK -- I'm not absolutely positive that it's black, but I even like the period correct white-wall tires. Oh, by the way, who are those two guys?

Enjoy.

Ben

Just realized that picture shows the car with a trunk mounted luggage rack ala Austin-Healy , Triumph, and MG

Steve was asking Carroll what it would take to remove it

Asked many times before, but does anyone know exactly which luggage rack that is? I remember Bob of ERA posting which rack they've modified/used in the past. But with SA using parts from many different English cars, the luggage rack must come from a specific car, or G.R. ((a trunk mounted luggage rack ala Austin-Healy , Triumph, and MG)), are you thinking that the same rack was used on all three two-seaters you listed; and the Cobra?
An old beat up leather suitcase riding on a stock rack would sure make for more "trunk space", for certain longer trips.

My favorite slabside--and one of the neatest Cobras I've seen--was a British Racing Green car I saw at Elkhart two years ago. It had Halibrand "kidney bean" wheels and must have been an early car, as it had the first-generation Cobra emblems and a Rotunda tach. It looked to be unrestored and had huge amounts of patina. I drooled all over that car for quite a while as everyone else seemed occupied with the Can Am cars it was parked near...

Love those period photos!

"Flip the car a couple of times Mr. Big Hollwood Movie Star, that'll get rid of it! You may have been great in Stalag 17 on a Harley, but try it in a Cobra!. I bet someday you'll probably try it with one of my fine SAI products in the Streets of San Francisco"

Default Luggage rack

Looks a LOT like the MG rack used from '61 on. You can get then from Moss, Victoria British, Euro spares etc.

Default It's "real"!

The "street" Cobras used an Austin Healey ash tray. Therefore, I have an "original" Cobra ash tray in my Healey? I better go polish it some more,,,,,,,,,,,,

McQueen: "Do you really think this thing can outrun a Dodge Charger? Can you take off those sissy whitewalls and wires, put on a set of Torq-thrusts, and maybe paint it a manly shade of green?"

CS: "Aw hell, Steve, this thang'll run rings around any ol' Dodge. Problem is, it was special-ordered in Princess Blue with wires, whitewalls, and a luggage rack by Rock Hudson. I don't know why. Don't have any more cars comin' over from England for a while, either, since we're switchin' 'em all to fourtwennysevens. You might try a Mustang..."

Exclamation

Great idea Snakeyes! Lets fill in the text bubbles.

McQueen:

"$6000! You have got to be ****tin' me! Are you sure you won't take $4000. In a couple of years you will be giving these things away"

Carroll

stare at car and ponder Steve's words

Scott,

Leave it to me and I can screw up a wet dream.

{{Looks a LOT like the MG rack used from '61 on. You can get then from Moss, Victoria British, Euro spares etc.}}

I had three different MGs, two had racks, my memory is fading, and my eyes are going, but I'm not sure the racks looked exactly like that.

Wow, no wonder my racks may have not matched the one above.

Default Nobody rides free.....

Steve: "I'd ask you to sign the dash but I don't want to pay the big money. How 'bout I get you on one of my movies instead"?

Carrol: "Use one of my Cobra's in the movie and I'll think about signing the dash for ya".

Probably because I am refering to the MGB or Midget rack! I should know by now that you have to be specific in this group

Here are some pics of what is available

Talking Whoa there Ernie!

Lets not make this another 'good' or 'evil' Carroll thread

McQueen:

"Does Carroll Smith rate your wardrobe? You know with the hat... yep I can see it! Now what is this about Rock?"

I didn't know that about the Healey ash tray. I saw one parked not that long ago. I could have got one then! Darn! Missed again.
