I've SAID I would!... either bring a set of film pics with you to Billy's (if it's on for this weekend), or send them to me.

..OR, I'll bring a digicam with me....

In the meanwhile, your fans will just have to make do with this shot of CSX4206, driven by Batman and Robin.

Now, back to the issue at hand...Huge Price Difference

Holey dust bowl Batman. I'm embarassed. Look how dirty that car is!

Ron: Thanks for the help. I have better pics for posting. Will bring them with me.

Evan, I have to ask (despite deviating from the topic) the difference in the "feeling" of the two cars. Since you started with a high-end replica and moved right into an SAI car, please state some "differences" in physical sensation between the two cars. Are the steering and brakes manual of power?

4206 is lookin good. This thread is turning into a monster. I like the responses though, Excaliber, good idea comparing the kits in build quality. its strange the FFR doesnt have a good comparison, arent there other manufacturers that use the donor concept? A year ago I was hellbent on getting a FFR , but the more research I do, I realize the FFRs are not consistent at all, as soon as I see that the car for sale is an FFR I am skeptical on who built it and what shortcuts were done to save $.
FFR=casio
ERA=raymond weil
CSX=rolex

OK, it's analogy time again, (or metaphor), whatever.....

In my case I subscribe to the notion that "Ignorance is sometimes bliss".

I like wine from time to time...(In fact, I like wine all the time) I probably max out at $20. a bottle (Hmmm, a familiar figure) anyway, I could probably spend a lot more for a bottle of wine but why? What if I really liked the $200. bottle , it was smooth, no bite and complimented the food perfectly. Seemed like the bottle to buy at the time but then the check came... $206. check for a bottle of wine and six double cheeseburgers at Mickey Dee's.
Am I crazy or what?

Last week my bill was only $26.00 for the same meal...$20. bottle of wine and six double CB's. I was happy with that. I got filled-up and a little tipsy for only $26.

Same thrill, same result, for a lot less money...

(or was this a picture posting thread?)

respectfully,

Hmm, interesting comparison...my thoughts:

Factory Five= Tag (well made depending on the model (build), good value
Unique= Omega/Breitling (respected, well made and reasonably priced)
SPF= Rolex Sport watch (i.e. Submariner, Daytona, Yachtmaster- rugged, good looking goes with a suit or jeans)
Era= IWC (Depending on the model similar in class to the corresponding Rolex, but a bit more panache/scarcer)
Kirkham*= Lange (Finer movement than an IWC/ a bit rarer)
Shelby*= Patek Phillipe ( a bit pricier than a Lange, yet not necessarily better)

Wine and watches,,,,,,,,it's beyond me. I know what a SPF is. but have no clue who in the heck Pateck Phillipe is! He sounds french, so he can't be good.

There is an FFR spec racer for sale RIGHT NOW that is a really cool, WELL MADE, race winning race car for 28K or so! Now there is an FFR I would seriously consider! Just don't know which OTHER car to compare it to, lol.

Now the thread is about which watch to wear with your brand of car.... I gotta tell you right now that, I'M NOT BUYING A NEW WATCH JUST TO MATCH MY CAR...... Anyway, I'm expecting a Rolex in the mail from Real 1 any day now...

I was carefully studying the "lines" of the Shelby in the picture above, and i just can't quite put my finger on it, but something about it just doesn't look right. I am not sure if it is the rear fender hips, or the nose of the car, but i just it just doesn't quite look like a "real" authentic 427 Shelby Cobra, mid '60's vintage looks like.

It is a fine looking car, but can comeone help me out on this one?

Maybe it is the more-bulbous radials on the front, with the same sensuous, curvy road-holders on her flanks. Her suspension doesnt sag at all, and her suspension gives a much nicer "ride". No wrinkles or cracks in the skin, either. I guess that is all in the eyes and hands of the beholder!!! lol !!!

I think the editorial on the front page of CobraNet was intended for the Rolex watch wearin' crowd. Maybe that's just me.

BlueRooster-- I agree with Hal-- the best car for YOU is the best car. I too researched like crazy before buying. Factors affecting my decision were my mechanical skills (LIMITED!), time to completion, accuracy, quality and COST (yes, it always makes the short list, eh?). It is very intimidating, but if you are honest with yourself, you will be very pleased with your purchase. If you buy a used car, be VERY CAREFUL as the quality of the build affects not only value but performance and SAFETY! Jim Coleman's video, "Bitten By The Snake" was very helpful also. Best of luck-- please post a picture of the look on your face when you see the car in your garage for the first time and think.. IT'S MINE!!!

Hal-- I know what you mean-- I've seen a bunch of them and although they are VERY close, there are some subtle differences. The wheel wells are "lighter" inside, are they aluminum lined? Also, the angle of the doors at the top front is a bit wider (when viewed from above), not as round-- perhaps to give a little more clearance between the body and the driver's hand on the steering wheel.

Hal: The CSX are perfectly shaped for Cobras and are exact for the shape of a Cobra. Why? Because they are Cobras!

I think you may be too used to the shape of the SPF. If thats your gauge your right the CSX is way off. Only problem is the CSX shape is correct the SPf is not and is way off in many respects.

The Kirkham bodied CSX's are EXACT clones of the Kirkham's CSX 3000 Cobra. You can't get the shape more correct.

Blue Rooster: Thank you.

Evan - What are the major differences (visually) in the CSX body and the SPF ?? They look pretty dead on to me, except for the radiator opening...
