what a predicament!
I am not sure whether I would be more EMBARRASED to have......
My counterfiet, replica, piece of junk Contemporary made in the USA.....
or a new "original" Shelby AMERICAN made in South Africa
I'll stick with mine I guess, I'll just drive it at night so as not to put any undo stress due to embarrasment on CS.
everyone have a good one,

What I find real funny about all this mess is he sued Superformance for unfair trade practices and other things saying the South African goverment subsidizes these companys constituting unfair trade practices and now he's getting them to make cars for himself.....
As Jamo said about the other thread, I think this one is going to long and possible ugly before it's over.......

Hersh...nothing sinister about that one... it just happens to be their name.
Here's some verbage from their "old" website...now down for changes....(..maybe a name-change?)
Shelby Custom Exotics
A father & son based team coming from a very competitive, expensive and successful racing background, where the road to the “Winners Circle” was paved by custom designing and building our own in-house chassis; billet aluminum mounts and brackets, fabricating our own jig welded and machined suspension components, and meticulacely hand-building our race cars to exacting tolerances to assure maximum all around performance and enabling us to compete and win against nationally sponsored race teams.
By coupling our race proven performance technology with detailed, hi-quality authentic looking exotics, we feel we are opening a new and exciting door to replicar customers and supercar enthusiasts. We now performance test every completed turnkey exotic before it leaves our facility and we are basing our designs on one goal: Always raising the performance specs. on our turnkey exotics, while maintaining a daily driveable, reliable and awesome looking street legal race car.

Wadda ya say Jamo? Extra innings ahead in this one too? Looks like it could possibly be another long one.
This appears to be very confusing. It will be very interesting to see how it all turns out. Sure sounds like the lines between a REAL car and a replica are getting more blurred.

Face the facts, a CSX prefix in your VIN number has value. Given the choice of cars priced at $38,500. prudent buyers will buy the car with the CSX. If the Old Grouch prices his cars at the SPF number, he will crush them.

Ha ha,,,so the Father son team really has a last name of Shelby I guess. Hey, if you got it, flaunt it. And that repo Lambo looks like a first class build!!! Very impressive.
Now the Ferrari movie car (link on the Lambo page) is likely to be missing a LOT of detail work. My experience has been "movie" cars look great in "pictures" and leave you thinking WTF when you see them for real and up close.
OK, Hersh gets the 12 VDC powered Ronco Can opener as a reward for completely jerking our chain on this thread.

Never fear. Evan is here.
Based on what I know CAV's are shipped by CAV to some participating Shelby Dealers and finished by some SAI dealers. CAV rolling chasis shipped by CAV to SAI dealer and the dealer finishes the car for the customer.
They are not seen as a competing product I guess because SAI does not make a GT40. The GT 40 was Fords baby and is Fords baby. Shelby may not be licensed make the GT40. It wasn't a Shelby, wasn't designed by Shelby, wasn't built by Shelby. The Cobras were Shelby's babies.
It could be there is some understanding between CS and Ford allowing his dealers to sell the CAV's. Maybe Ford doesn't care. Who knows.
Its natural to allow CAV to become a CSX dealer. By licensing CAV I understand they are licensing them to sell Shelby Cobras ie. CSX's shipped to them from SAI as they would be shipped to any other dealer.
Wheres the confusion???? What don't you guys get???This is not quantum physics.
Sorry Gordon: I think your confused. But hope does spring eternal. I think you are confusing endorment of a product with licensing. If Shelby licensed B&B (which they won't since they sell a replica which competes with the Cobra) B&B could become a dealer too and they would be able to sell CSX's supplied by Shelby. Also I don't see CS endorsing the B&B's anytime soon. Sorry Gordon. (Dooooh!)
You guys are really funny.

Kris,
I think I get it!
Presently only the 427S/C is being manufactured
by CAV, with shipment commencing in May 2003.
Why only the 427s/c if they are only dealers???
Key word, "Manufactured"
The plot thickens

Hersh...
......Good thread. You have already sent the "embarassment" thread to the bottom of the page and will probably knock it off the front page by days end.
Kris-
Is your passport current? Do you speak Afrikkans? I would expect they will need extra quality welders at CAV. Seriously, I will not be surprised to see some of the CSX production go to SA. Hard to ignore the cost savings.
I am familiar with the products Hi-Tech (Superformance) produce and have even sent them a possible new customer to produce cars for. South Africa offers high capacity and capabilities at very competitive pricing. I beleive you will see more outsourcing for small volume products to independant manufacturers who can deliver. Ford UK has just started selling the Ford Street KA that Pininfarina is producing for them and Ford has previously used Karmann in Germany as well as TWR for small runs. TWR actually builds the Aston Martin DB7 for Aston as Hi-Tech did the Ace for AC. It's a global economy people.

Evan;
You need to check out the CAV site again..... It clearly states they ARE MANUFACTERING 427 S/C and shipping will start May 2003.....
They are NOT DEALERS they are MANUFACTERS,at least according to their own site and info.......You know the saying,if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck-------well, you get the idea.....

If.........
If this whole issue is true and not just an April Fools joke created by some disgruntled employee who controls the website at CAV and doesn't think that Shel will try to sue them in S. Africa then, it can only be done in order to threaten the stability of Superformance and put out glass CSX cars to Shelby specs at Superformance prices or less.
Shelby already makes the car. How hard would it be for him to send over one car and have them copy it like The Kirkhams did in Poland. The GT 40 is a lot harder to make than a Cobra.
I guess we will see. The bottom line may be accurate CSX cars in glass at Kit Car prices. Who Knows????

Actually what Evan and Mark IV said makes sense. It's a "global marketing/manufacturing thing". Hmmmm,,,,,interesting.
Following that logic I could see where Kirkham could offer a "real" Shelby Cobra IF they were "licensed" to do so by SAI. Which I don't see happening, but in the theory is sound. What then would make it "different" than the current Kirkham? What ever it is that Shelby does to a Kirkham to make it a Shelby Cobra all ready!
Somewhat different parts, changes in the sheet metal (real fuzzy on WHAT that means), and other "things". I guess it's really all about being "touched by the master". AND if THATS it, what happens to "real" when the "master" passes on? Is it the end of the line for "real" Shelby Cobras? It may well be! In that case, Evans car could turn out to be one of the best "investments" he's ever made! Think about it!
I have a hunch, Real 1, will have the last laugh when the smoke has cleared!
Ernie
