GAAAAWWWWDDDD this topic is making me sick - It's obvious that Shelby has and will do anyting to make a buck. Too bad because he used to be a real down to earth guy that just wanted to go fast and have fun, like the rest of us.

My idea
Buy a CSX car at the least expensive price possible and you will always be more likely to get your money back and then some.
I know there are Kit Car guys out there that have close to entry level glass CSX money in their non CSX car.

The same principle holds true for many "kit" Cobras IF you can hold the price at a decent level. I know in my case, I drove my Excal for a year or so and got MORE for it when I sold it.
One of the driving reasons behind the sell was the hand writing on the wall:
Need: Bigger motor, different suspension, mods here and there. Fire up the money machine or get out while you can and BUY another one built the way I want it.

Hmmm.. replica Daytona's.. When will the madness end. Next thing you know he will want to replicate the GT(40).. Oh yea.. He already announced that..
All I know is he is driving the price of fiberglass cars up and up.. I'm thinking about filing suit to put a stop to this.. yea that's it..

One of the McCluskey's was on Ebay a couple of months ago owned by a Japanese investor. In a private email, he said he would let it go for $200,000. It had very few miles on it. The pics demonstrated it was a pretty nice car. That should be the bar, I would think, for these cars.

,,so I asked my son (he's 13 so obviously an "expert" on just about everything) his opinon:
"If Shelby endorses a builder to build a car and use a CSX number, but doesn't actually DO anything to the car himself, is it really a Shelby Cobra/Coupe car?"
His answer: "Of course it is, because Shelby wouldn't do that unless he thought the builder was really good and the car would be a good car".
His faith in C.S. is unshakable, I think thats great.
Maybe when he is older we'll have the "talk" about popcorn, guitars, Omnis and "marketing" strategy, lol.

IF a McCluskey METAL body car can be had for 200K I would think a glass car would sell for WELL under that amount.
....course, the power of that CSX number is the "real" question...

The CSX # are 7060 to 7069 they will be fiberglass and I think a carbon fiber nose. The bodys are being made by a company in Harrisburg that makes Grand Am Corvettes. The price is going to be around $ 150,000.00 Hope this helps with the questions. Thanks Lee

Sounds like a great project.
Just curious, and you can reply offline if you prefer, but what "options" will be included? I rode some years ago in a McCluskey and it was hot, ie needed a/c.
Also, since 'glass is departing from original, what about coil-over vs leaf spring suspension?

Shelby owns/owned at least one McCluskey-built Coupe; it was raced both at Monterey a couple of years back as well as Goodwood. Frankly I'm surprised they don't just splash a body off of that...either way, all I can say is, CS issues aside, if they come out looking as good as a McCluskey, they will be damned breathtaking and I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I had the cash.
Ernie, don't even joke about a Flip Top replica--that's hitting below the belt.

ABOUT YOUR SON ...
Ernie,
Your son's comments about Carroll Shelby sound, shall we say, rather familiar.
His name wouldn't be EVAN?
I guess Shelby won't be endorsing the Daytona replica pictured in the SPF brochures??

LOL,
His name is "Dusty Bear Cowboy man from snowy river riding "Bucker" his famous horse that can fly".
.......but I think he's out growing his "long name" so we just call him Dusty these days. A childs "pure" logic, I find it very refreshing at times, as well as exasperating at other times!

Even though I can't describe him, I know Evan when I see Evan!
Let's see "a child's 'pure' logic" and "exasperating at times"?
You sir, are talking about the REAL one.
