MkIV

Is your freinds Caterham in the States and if so what sort of reaction does it generate in people? In the 4 years that I lived in America I only saw one and that was at a car show in Canada.

I have a friend who had one in Madrid and we used to get mobbed every time we drove it there.

there are several Chaterhams in metro Detroit area, and they always generate interest. For the old folks that remember the Lotus Super 7, they think that is what they are seeing. I saw two not long ago running at nearby Waterford Hills Race Track, one with i believe a 4 cyl Ford Z tech engine (not sure on that one other than a 4 cyl ford) and the other with a Holden engine. The owner with the Holden engine was a General Motors employee who said he had to have a GM powerplant, makes sense to me . Both cars on the track were faster than they sounded and stuck to the course like a train on the tracks, they were a joy to watch. I wasnt sure their engines were running, they were so quiet, guess i am used to a throaty V8....bill.

Bill.

I lived in Detroit for two years and never saw any - must have been hanging around in the wrong places. If you want the best of both worlds one of the Cobra builders over here (Dax) make a Caterham lookalike that takes a V8. It's called a Dax Rush and a hot one will hit 60 in less than 4 seconds! A number of people here also fit high end motorbike engines and some have fitted two engines into one car. Two Fireblade engines (at around 140 horse power each) in a vehicle that weighs around half a ton leads to some pretty exciting motoring! It probably equals the power to weight ratio of 750HP's monster.

The GTO is an exceptional handling car, I drove one at the autocross at the Spring Fling and was within .7 seconds of FTD on Perelli P Zero street tires. It has a very fine balance and less trailing throttle oversteer than my GT40. The power steering has a perfect combination of feel and assist. The only drawback is the lack of significant luggage space although it has tripple the room of my GT40.
