Carroll Shelby Tribute Thread

Of all the fond memories spoken on this thread, there are only 3 current CSX owners and 1 former CSX owner. I think that just shows us all that no matter what kind of Cobra you own, we would not all be here if it wasn't for, you know who!!

I didn't know a Shelby from a Corvair. It was in the late 60's I saw one. It looked like a fatter version of an MGA.

Then I heard it, smelled it and felt it. I knew one day I would have one of those. Didn't know when, didn't care if it was real or not. Didn't know anything about replicas (I don't think there were any for some years to come).

Finaly had my dreams come true. It wasn't the CSX that satisfied the urges of 30 years, it was an ERA.

I had never driven one before my own car, never even sat in one until I had already ordered one. Didn't care about anything except to have one.

I m fortunate to be on my second one. It is safe to say, I will always have one barring any financial or medical complications.

You know something guys, I can be as happy with anyone of these things. If it looks like a Cobra, and behaves like one...it is good enough for me.

As for Shelby, yes we owe it all to him. The car, the vision, the culture, the grief and all the crap we dish out and the crap we get as a result of getting involved with these cars.

I suppose I at least owe a sincere Thank You, to the man who has been responsible for the alterations to my life for the last three years.

It is not the people, it is the car!!

Carroll Shelby does not need a thread to give him tribute. Everone of his creations - Cobras included - stand in tribute of him. He has created his own tribute.

I don't really think the thread is for Carroll. I doubt any of us really expect him to read or really care that much. I think it is more for us. Healing if you will.

His cars have always been great. Except maybe some of the Dodge ones! A hatchback Shelby......... Just kidding!

The Cobra's always been the Holy Grail to me. I've favored Fords (I know, a Cobra's not a Ford) over the years, probably due to my father's love for the wonderful Model A. Anyway, the first and only original I've actually seen driving along under its own power was a sighting in Waterloo, Iowa, in junior high. I had just gotten my learners permit, and was driving with my mom. A black 289 Cobra passed us, going the opposite direction. Two beautiful blondes were in it, but it is the car I remember. I almost went off the road as it passed. Couldn't believe my eyes. Mom didn't understand my excitement and temporary lapse in driving a straight line...It took a while for my her to let me drive again. I decided right then that I'd find a way to have one some day. My first car was a '68 Cougar, which was traded for a '66 Mustang GT convertible. That led to a swap for a '70 BOSS 302, then a '66 GT 350, and now the Cobra. I fell for Shelby's ad campaign "Have you ever wished you had bought an original Cobra...here's your second chance." (the CSX4000's) I took the bait, hook line and sinker, sold the '350, and haven't regretted it for a second. Thanks, Carroll, for the originals, and thanks, too, for the second chance to buy one from ya.

I can remember the very moment that I fell in love with the ford Mustang. I knew I had to have one. As it turned out, I have owned well over 80 differant Mustangs. I truely regret never being able to buy a Shelby Mustang over the years. Then I got married and being able to buy one flew out the window. With the health problems that my wife has I had to have a Late model Car that was reliable. That ment I had to have a NEW car with a warranty because of the exspence of repairs. That was when I had a vission of a late model Shelby Mustang. I spent about 2 Months designing how I wanted it to look. When I got it the way I wanted it, I thought to myself.... "I can market this as a kit for other Mustang owners". That was when I drew up a proposal and mailed to Carroll Shelby. It took about 18 Months working out the details with the Attorneys, Contracts were signed and MUSTANG F/X, Inc. was born on January 2, 1999. I have been into cars for as long as I can remember and I do not plan to change. I now produce special Limited kits for 1994 to Present Ford Mustangs. The "TRIBUTE EDITION SHELBY" kit, which turns the Mustang into a Limited Production, Numbered Vehicle and it pays TRIBUTE to a great Man, Carroll Shelby, for all that he has done for the Automotive Industry. I cant thank Carroll Shelby enough for the chance he has given me. All I can do is pay Tribute to him with a High Quality Product and First Class Service.

I've always been a gearhead, when I was 10 years old I was buying Hot Rod and other car Magazines. I learned about Mustangs, Cobras, and Caroll Shelby in Road & Track when my friends were still playing Cowboys and Indians. If you are into horsepower AND handling, what other choice is there? Carroll Shelby: how could one possibly do credit to him without writing a book. Carroll, in my mind my red white and blue COBRA has represented two things that were until now praivate: 1) A CELEBRATION OF YOUR CARS, and 2) A DEDICATION TO THE MEN WHO FOUGHT IN WORLD WAR II.

IN LATE '65 I TRADED MY FALCON SPRINT FOR MY FIRST COBRA. SILVER/ RED. HATED THE COLOR REDID IT RED/ BLACK. THANKS TO CAL I MAY FIND IT. ANYWAY, SOLD IT, REALIZED A MISTAKE, ORDERED A NEW '67GT500, NOT QUITE THE SAME. CARROLL HAD ME HOOKED. ENTER CSX2192, WEBERS ET. ALL. THEN IN '68 WANTED A HOUSE. HERES WHERE THE REAL THANKS COMES IN. SOLD BOTH CARS FOR WHAT WAS THEN ALOT OF MONEY. THOSE TWO CARS GAVE ME A START, PLUS ENOUGH FOND MEMORIES, TO KEEP THE SHELBY SPIRIT ALIVE.
