Default CSX 4027 Should be an Icon for SAI POll

What went into that car was recognized by most that saw it. Since it spends its time at SAI and has been said to be the standard by which they want other CSX cars completed.
I welcome your thoughts since Kris at Shelby as well as the others seemed to be impressed.
I would like my own spot in SAI history as a tireless fanatic that sought out to make it really look like it was DeJaVu all over again.
Do I hear any nominations??

Hey Steve.........

I don't suppose you want to submit to all of us what you exactly did to your car....would you?? Every detail?? Not that myself, Evan and the rest of us would take advantage of these little details. We would never !! I have not seen your car in person yet. I'll have to check the car out soon if it's still at the Shelby Showroom.

Cool

4027 is a sweet car. I can't really think of anything I would change. It is the perfect shade of blue. It has every original detail you could think of. I'm not sure what exhaust it has, but it sounds truly wicked. It drives super smooth with sharp throttle response and it is one of the sweetest shifting cars I have ever been in. And thats with a factory Ford shifter! Just awesome.

Steve,
Sad to see the car without the original paint scheme, Now that was detail.

Were the original upper A arms adjustable?

Wow, even the tin straps on the rear harness in the trunk have the correct double loops, not the single loop repros. I'm impressed, but then again I put a small block in my csx4000.

I prefer to see it in "as raced" condition, more than it's present condition. Steve, you car was a masterpiece in it's time. But in my own humble opinion, is slightly lacking without the racing windscreen installed, and perhaps some paint chips here and there from severe useage.....

Default 4027

I would love to see it back in the original paint configuration, chips and all. It took 3 days to lay out the stripes and meatballs after measuring 3 Original cars that I liked. Since there is no absolute correct way to lay them out, you just had to do what pleased the eye the most and I felt I got that.
The upper a-arms as well as the lower a-arms were adjustable in 4027 for racing but were easily changed back if it were to be a show and go car as oppossed to just a go car.

The tape over the head lamps looks too symmetrical.

Thumbs up

I spent some time with the former owner (Mr. Sunshine himself) of 4027 with my car at SAAC in Charlotte. After consulting with Steve and after his review of 4206 many details found on 4027 are now on 4206!

I say 4027 is an icon. It was my cars mentor!

Default Tape

The tape was too symetrical. I got a little carried away.
Ron, I had NOS clear lenses but, all of the 427 comp cars I saw that I liked were amber. It was a 2 second swap. I bet you never saw me use the amber ones a goggles..

Default One Day...

I will put those mint conditiion Ken Miles goggles up for auction. I'll bet they go over $1000. They are tough to find in any condition.

Looks pretty darn good to me! Is it my imagination or is the Tach turned to the side? Was this how the comp cars had them so redline was straight up or what?

Catch ya later

Default Tach

I wouldn't think that was an original thing but I had seen a few originals with it so......I figured it was a pretty cool idea that a twist of the wrist could change if necessary.
PS-It was easier to read since I was usually between 6000 & 7000 rpms anyway

I am confused. If the goal is to have an absolutely faithful reproduction with infinite detail, is the goal missed by painting it a color that was not original?

Pictures don't always say 1000 words.
Hard to tell........
But,that is the real Guardsman Blue.
DuPont is the only paint manufacturer that maintains the original 1964 mix and that is it.

Steve, why did you go with the glass body instead of the aluminum?

I was in on the project of the 4000 cars from the very beginning. I knew Tom 'D Antonio before the first car was built. At that time, aluminum was really not an option. It was entertained for around a $25,000 option but, that was out of the cards for me.

I was actually reserved 4026 by invitation but they had not finished the mule car so I did not commit. When the mule was done I went to LV to see it and ended up with 4027.

I felt the only way I was going to own a Shelby was to get in at the bottom and make it the best one that I could. I did also have to stay married through this. My theory worked out pretty good because I think more people know 4027 more than practically any other 4000 series to date. Just walk in to SAI and mention the number. If you look anyhing like me they might cart you away in a straight jacket. Me and SAI certainly spent our share of time on the phone. I believe there was only one car with an earlier serial number that got an aluminum body. It was from Kimmons I believe. I heard it cost a ton. Kirkham was not together with Shelby at that time with bodies. They were at war.

Some of the early aluminum bodies from other suppliers were a problem to get fit correct. HRE actually had a different guy up in New England make bodies for about $22,000. They were OK but again a big number.

The bottom line is that my roller was 100% made by Shelby American. That's why I bought it.
