Urethane steel outer idler arm bushings installation
I have Ford Falcon steering idler bushes they are nolathane, or urethane and have a steel outer with flange to press them in to the idler, I am using these on my rear suspension arms, the arm hole is the same size as the Falcon but When I pressed the bush in I damaged the flange and it delaminated from the urethane, which pi**ed me off. Another cause of deformation when pressing my sleeve went slightly off center. I am turning up on the lathe a tight fit cap that fits over the bush with a guide that goes through this time.
My question is should you put grease, coppercote, drylube or even dishwashing liquid to assist assembly, they are designed to compress down, and they are such a tight fit that they aint going to turn in the housing?
Sounds like a saga, which is what it turned out to be, as it should have been a 15 minute job!
