Assembled vehicle insurance in Michigan "need help"
Does anyone know where I can get no-fault insurance in the state of Michigan. My title reads "assembled" and the insurance carrier I used for years has gone out of business. Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. The car is insured with Lloyds of London for theft and collision. However they do not offer no-fault coverage. Thanks David

Dave,
I'd only be guessing, but I can imagine the only satisfactory outcome would be for you to give up on the idea of insuring your ERA, and packing it into the next shipping container headed for Australia.
Ummmm, yeah - that'd work!!!
Glad to be of assistance!

you might have to give up theft/collision with L/L and give it all to the co's that will write insurance in Mich. Many do not due to 'no fault' .
there are several co's that have been used by others in Mich, dependent on driving record, age, other requirements. So, for some it would be a GO and for others the same co might say NO. . I signed up with Grundy last summer after Hagerty dropped their liability to very low levels. Others posted Grundy was not writing new policies but they took on my car which is registered as a 1998 " assembled vehicle" in state of Mich with Mich State's assigned 'assembled vehichle VIN.
There are over 100 Cobra replicas in metro detroit as members of the Great Lakes Cobra Club and many more that are not in the club, and they have insurance thrue someone, so you will just have to start calling around. good luck. bill

David -
Try Parish - they write a lot of Cobra replicas.
Parish
Phone: (800) 274-1804 (Tennessee office)
They are being much more selective on Cobras nowadays, too. The forms I had to fill out for my last renewal basically asked for a "resume" of my experience with high-performance automobiles, including what type of car, how big an engine, how long I had owned it, and how much "open track" or performance driving training I experienced.
They also offer a significant discount for an "on-board" fire system (the discount is nearly enough to buy a system).
Good luck!
regards,
Jeff Burgy

Bill.... thanks for the information. Is there any chance you have phone numbers for the two carriers you mentioned? Jeff, I will try Parrish as well. The fact is.... I have a great policy and quite reasonable rates thru Lloyds. Ideally... I would just like to get some cheap basic no- fault insurance locally if possible. Finally....I see Craig....the comedian thinks I should just give up and ship my car to him in Australia. Craig...don't hold your breath on that happening! David

hagerty no longer carries Cobras except for current customers who are grandfathered. Grundy has a website with on line quotes, do NOT use the online system. call them instead. they will route you to their MICHIGAN specialist, you need to talk to them directly. site address with general info and phone numbers is :
http://www.grundy.com/

State Farm
Don't know who your local carrier is, but State Farm is insuring my replica. Its not on the road yet, but I have liability & comprehensive insurance on it until it gets titled, at which time the policy will switch to normal automobile coverage. Not sure yet how "cheap" it will be, but might be worth a try. My agent had to "pull some strings" with State Farm to get the policy written, but made it happen. The proper procedure does not seem to be common knowledge.
Good luck!

I've tried the SF route in michigan - no go.
Grundy - no new policies...been there.
I ended up with Conden and Skelly.

David,
Try Expert Underwriters (248) 524- 3290 Ask for Grethen (not Gretchen) Wilson.
