Trigos are sold.. Goodyears went with them..

At least for $1300. in 17' tires you can get out to 315/35's .. 325's if I had squeezed the offset another 5/8" .. But then 12.5" of tread on the road should be enough..

I might be a moron for doing this but I only spent $85.89 per corner... Over ebay I bought for my Superformance the following:

Front: Dunlop Sport SP8000 - 235/55/ZR15
Rear: Toyo Proxes S/T - 257/60/HR15


I'll post city and freeway handeling & feel (and photos) after I mount thes on my spare 15" Trigos... Then again I won't if my mismatch choice kills me.

Ref the 15 in tire problem.
I went thru this awhile back and decided to try the Yokohama's Avids. They are less than $500 a set; 295-50 and 245-60's.
Only have a few hundred miles on them; they have far exceeded my expectations. Traction is great, ride is good, they are round and balanced nicely, and braking seems fine.

John,

After thinking about your choice, I believe you have made a very good decision. The Dunlops have much better cornering grip than the Dunlops, but they have considerably smaller contact patches so this may balance out very well. The Dunlops are Z rated so speed related blowouts are diminished on the more important, steering end. I am running Dunlop S5000's on my Altima and they are very impressive tires. The Toyos have been on all four corners of my Cobra for two years now and have worn less than half way. I am very happy with their true tracking on the freeway and that they don't flat spot after sitting or need constant balancing.

Did you get the tires new on ebay? That's a very good deal! As much as I watch stuff there, I never saw these tires. Do, please let us know how well they work.

Default Careful with Kumho in the Wet

Kumhos are a great buy, as long as it is dry. My friends M3 with Kumhos will swap ends nothing flat when it gets a little wet.

I talked to a tire engineer and this is the reason he gave me.

Kumho use a lot of polyester(sp?) in their tread because it is very inexpensive but has very good durability and heat disapation.

Better tires and more expensive performance tire will use Rayon instead. Better characterists dry or wet, but the material costs way more. Better "plyability" if that is even a word, when it comes to how the rubber is combined with the Rayon itself.

So, with that said, generally Cobra's have 90" wheel bases and can swap ends pretty quickly if not paying attention.(Like I need to tell anyone that one on this board.) But most of the time these cars are not driven when its wet, so you can be the judge.

Well I did it...
Front: Dunlop Sport SP8000 - 235/55/ZR15
Rear: Toyo Proxes S/T - 257/60/HR15

STREET RIDE
a. Very smooth
b. No vibrations
c. The softer rubber still does not make any difference with oversteer when they get damp.

HWY RIDE
a. All of the above still apply.
b. Rides great at LA traffic speeds (75-85mph)
c. At really high speed (120+) steering is very sensitive. Any movement of the wheel is extremely exaggerated, scary the first time it happened.

OVERALL
I'm kinda happy with my choice. I don't tend to speed around town or fly down the freeway often so I think this combo will work for a while.

John,

That does not sound very good. Have you tried increasing the rear tire pressure and decreasing the fronts? On the 14 hour rally this weekend, I spent much of the day at 80 plus with no problems. Twitchy handling can tire a driver very quickly. As it was, I asked Ron to drive a few times so I could rest my eyes. It gets to be a real strain, staring at the horizon for a long time at high speed. Another team had rented a new Thunderbird for the rally, and they were pushing it very hard. Sometimes, I let them lead so I could rest. I could blow by anytime I wanted to.
