At $91K its a bargain.
Someone will be getting a great deal, that is if the reserve is met.

Somebody else already stated that this is only an indication of the cars value on ebay, and in that light, I think it did great, probably as a sight-unseen bid. Add 25-50% if the buyer is standing there listening to it idle , sporting wood at the thought of actually driving it.
Evan, you are forgiven, and I appreciate your tenacity in the defense of the csx4000 series REAL Shelby Cobras.

An extremely stiff chassis is not safer (ask the widow of any dead Watson Indy type roadster). If the frame is too stiff and does not crumple to absorb energy, then the only thing that deforms and absorbs energy is the occupants. (See IMAX movie 'Super Speedway'). If anything, these Cobra frames are too stiff, and the engines do not drop down and out on impact. Instead, they end up in your lap.

If you look at the majority of the post's by captain, it appears he has an axe to grind with Shelby. Just ignore him and he will go away.

I should have bought my X-Wife a Watson Roadster.
It would have been cheaper

Brett,
You are on the right track. Superformance DOES have energy deflection built in and that makes it safer than two battering rams.
You do not have to be an engineer to know that [but I am].
Evan, you are right that BETTER is in the eye of the beholder. Don't know why I do not have the same right. I just specified that chassis is one of my criteria.
As to Specialk, the facts speak for themself. Let Shelby defenders answer WHO Shelby contacted for the Heart Fund. I only quoted the company so often attacked.

The only concern I have about frames is that they be "stiff enough" to not be a factor in dialing in my suspension for the track. "Crush" factors etc. I don't think amount to a hill of beans with a car this small and this LOW. You get in a serious accident with a Cobra and your in deep deep trouble no matter what "frame" you got!
,,,man I am SO over the heart fund thing. There will never be an answer for sure about who did or who said what and when. Only rumor, innuendo and "quotes" from suspect publications using suspect sources in ALL the various camps. Some "quote" from Shelby in some publication doesn't mean much to me. It will be almost FOR SURE taken out of context or used to "mis lead" one way or another. Thats why they call it "Snake Oil" after all.

Captain: You absolutely do have the right. Chasis choice is certainly a valid concern or criteria. I can think of a number of reasons why one may want a SPF over a CSX or visa versa. All depends what you want and whats important to you. Seriously.
I think SPF is a great car and product. I like them a lot. In fact my cousin has decided to buy a Cobra, and being the family/resident Cobra expert he called me to ask me a gazzillion questions. First was what should be buy between $40K and $60K.
While I recognize there are other quality replicas out there I made only two recommendations. ERA and SPF.
I think Ernie is right. I don't think crushable frames amout to much in these cars. If your in an accident serious enough to start crush on one of those chasis your already in DEEP doodo.
I think whats more important is a collapsable steering column.
As to the donation issue I again agree with Ernie. There has been so much bull$hit said, hearsay, innuendo and various garbage I don't think we will ever really know who said and did what. There are probably more than three sides to this storey.

Real,
I cannot agree more.
The only thing important is that the owner enjoys HIS toy and everyone else that wishes to criticize can jump in the lake.

Well, Ernie, probably you are (as usual) correct, especially if you are hit by an F350 diesel dually. But, if you simply go off the road into an embankment, perhaps no. Watson Roadsters were quite high and large, and their drivers died at an alarming rate. New technology Indy cars that are very low and collapsible can hit a wall at 200 mph, and the driver walks away. So, while I agree that you are generally a sitting duck in a Cobra, size doesn't always matter if you are otherwise well protected. (I realize this is not a fair comparison, it is made for discussion purposes only).
And Evan, you are right. If your frame accordian collapses, you sure better hope you steering column does likewise. Gives new meaning to the term "cardiac catheterization".
As for back on thread, what do you think the meaning of the no sale at $91k means? What will it be 1 yr from now?

It's not like I'm always right, sometimes I open mouth and insert foot.
I don't put much stock in the $91K bid, e-bay is a very fickle thing. Filled with "bargain hunters". Plus, no doubt it's a buyers market right now.
Kind of surprising though. Even in a "down market" some things tend to remain pretty stable. In the Cobra market, SAI I think would be such a car. And a well done ERA won't fall "that much".
A Cobra with a Chevy motor, an auto trans and "wierd" wheels wouldn't stand a chance at a decent re-sale price in todays market. Then again, a car like that is hard to sell on a GOOD day, lol.
As I see it there are one of TWO things that are EVERYTHING when it comes to selling a Cobra.
#1 As DV put it, "Flash" is one. It's got to "look" good. Needs some crhome or polished something, good paint, a stripe, some dress up for the motor,,,,,some "flash".
OR
#2. "Period correctness". No need flash with this one, just accurate detail.
You want good re-sale, you better have #1 or #2.

Nice pics of the C.R. I know what you mean about getting an old car back. I think they haunt us some how, and find their way back!
