Question Aluminum Looking Paint

All:

I'm still on my quest for a paint color that resembles aluminum. The more I see the aluminum-bodied cars, the more I like the look...but it's awfully hard to dupe that with fiberglass.

I have attached a picture of Jamo's fine lookin Kirkham car that I found...Awesome looking car Jamo....

Could you all please help me come up with a color that would match this?

You take 12 rolls of "Reynolds Wrap", some 3M spray adheasive and a lot of elbow grease.........

You doan need no steenkin' paint....

It's hard to beat the look of James Baldwin's painted Cobra. I think it looks better than natural aluminum and with a lots less trouble:

A few years ago there was an article in one of the street rod magazines that had a 32 Ford painted to look like aluminum that was on fire under the hood. That car played a roll in my car having the ghost flames on it. The paint if I remember correctly was a special mix PPG that the painter (shop) had made by mixing two colors together. The paint was slowly poured into a larger container the it was not shaken to completly mix it but it was stured (SP) slowly to leave trace colors of each of the two colors. Then it was overshaded with a third color to put the streaks in that is inhearant with aluminum. The the car paint was scratched with shocthgaurd and overshot with a clear coat. I had discussed this with my painter in great detail and decided not to do it because of the enourmous expense to do it. As it was the paint on my car cost ten grand!

I don't know the colors but I have seen it done and I could not tell if it was paint or aluminum.

If you are going to spend that kind of Money to make your car look aluminum you may as well have aluminum, Call David Kirkham and order an aluminum Kikham and you will need NO PAINT to make it look like aluminum!

Bly,

Borrow on of Jamo's doors and take it to your local Home Depot. Have the guy in the paint department "scan" it under their paint color computer. Get a couple gallons, a couple rollers and a brush or two and in a couple hours you'll have it done.

blykins - Off topic question, what's up with your signature line "Drive it like you stole it" ?? My engine builder used that phrase all the time - then I blew a head gasket...

I used Audi's Aluminum Silver metallic.
I've yet to find a better silver to my eye.
I don't know how to post the photo here, but could email it to you. Let me know.
Unfortunately, they all look the same on the computer.

Hey Scott, I'd love to see some pics if you could send them to me.

brentlykins@hotmail.com

As for the signature line...I saw it on a No Fear T-shirt while I was at Skip Barber racing school. :-) I wish you luck with your future head gaskets...hehehe
