I like the intact picture a lot better. Glad you're ok. Good luck with the insurance.

I'm trying to show how the 4" tube is bent here.

This pic should give an idea of how crushed the front X member is. The drivers side front of the car is really pushed back.

Did you see my question from this morning about my rear sway being removed? Is there any input on that? Could that have affected the way the car handled once the rear end broke loose? Jahred, I got the car a little sideways and the rest is what you see here. This was between two rock walls lining the road, not much shoulder.

I don't want to offend Nuke427 again. But the details provided so far just don't seem to make sense. It was a "bluff", it was "rocks", it was "down by the lake". WTF?

Sorry for you detail oriented people. At the Lake in Missouri, accross the damn they have channeled a large hill to put a road in. On either side of the road all that is there is a rock wall about 70' high. About 3' of room between the edge of the pavement and the rocks. I called them bluffs, whatever you want to call it it does not matter. If you were standing on top of them would it be a bluff, I don't know. I'm tired of people accusing me of changing this damn story. If anyone wants to know why the early posts had things removed, not added, email me and I will tell you. I'm trying to tell you as much as I can! CAR HIT ROCKS. That's really all anyone needs to know. I was driving and I take full responsibility. NO ONE was with me. NO ONE was within 200 yds of me. NO CARS were around except the ones in front of me that were going in the same direction. After the car hit the wall, it came to a stop. I unbuckled my harness. I said a few foul words. Many people stopped to help. Police showed up. I told them what happened. They said wow, that's exactly what the witnesses said. I road in the ambulance, I got my leg all sewn up. I had X-rays of every bone in my body. My wife came to get me. I went to my in-laws. I took pain medicine. I went to bed. I got up and had eggs. I went home. I started a post. Anymore info needed?

Well Nuke, it looks like you biggest mistake was starting the post! Sorry I couldn't resist. But, look on the bright side your post count has tripled since all this began.

You know, that's all I really wanted when all this began. A higher post count. That just put a smile on my face.

Generally the rear bar will tighten the car, although with the different track widths not all generalitlies apply with a Cobra.. Did I see that you didn't hook it up because you changed the rear control arms. If the geometry changed, that can affect weight transfer and handling.

Nuke- we all make mistakes, sometimes some of us pay a touch more for them. Glad you are in one piece, if a little battered.

I am no suspension guru, but yes, IMHO, lack of rear anti-roll bar would cause the car to handle very differently at or apporaching the limit. Complete change of under/oversteer characteristics. Without knowing any further details (no, I am not asking) I would guess this is what made the car behave differently this one time.
Hope someone better qualified than I will chip in.

Mend well and soon. The car doesn't matter - your wife and child care more about you.

Might be to soon to answer this, but do you intend to repair/replace the car.

Or are you done with cobras?

Hope your Insurance company pays you and you can get a new car soon.

Also hope we ALL can learn from your lesson. We are screw up at times.

Best of Luck!

What I'll do next is dependant upon the insurance settlement. If they want to repair or pay out. If the deem it a loss, I may not get another. I don't know yet. I'm still feeling the pain so maybe once I'm off the pain medication my mind will clear up and the decision will be easy.

To all;

Nuke started this thread to ask for insurance advise,that is what I tried to give him. I'll keep my opinions to myself about the other matters,he did not ask for them....

Nuke;

Sorry things on this thread went downhill for you,I do not think you should receive the flames you got,especially from people who know little about the accident... I have and if the others are honest,I'm sure 99.9% of the guys and gals here have done some stupid and dangerous things before that we are not proud of,enough said about that....

Klayfish;

I'm with you about "reporting" to underwriting with one exception,that being DWI or DUI whichever it is called in your area. that is one of my pet peaves. Yes,I have driven before when I have had too much to drink,but I'd like to think I've grown up enough to have quit doing that years ago,driving while drinking that is,not stop drinking....I still enjoy drinking socailly and when I do my wife or someone else always drives....

When it comes to claims,a collision claim is a collision claim,no matter who's at fault are what caused the accident. I work the claim all the same,weather it was unavoidble or just a dumb move on the drivers fault.... I have probably seen it all over the years, worked in a body shop for 14 or so years repairing cars,we probably turned out 10 cars a week,now for the last ten years in the claims industry looking at an average of 1300 damaged vehicles a year....

Nuke, I'm sure you feel bad enough about the whole incident,I know your body will heal up and with time your spirit will also,hope things work out between you and your insurance carrier,again, if you need some help or advise,please feel free to e-mail with any questions and perhaps I can offer you some help....

David

I put this out on the FFcobra forum so I wanted to make sure that it was seen here also.

I've gotten alot of good information through email from some very shockingly nice people from these forums. I've taken a lot of heat, but so far the info I've received has been worth it and I can't say I wouldn't post again because of this. The good has out weighed the bad for me. I really appreciate those of you that have personally helped and you know who you are. Thanks.

Thumbs up me too!

Nuke,

I feel your pain. Sorry to hear about your Cobra

If it is any help, a deer charged my old SPF. I got a new one In between it was tough. I did not know what the out come would be. You'll get through this, like you said "no one got hurt, the most important thing"

No comment on those who wish to "wag their finger" at others misfortune.

Thank you Eric. I will start a new thread with how the insurance plays out which is why we all looked at this post in the first place. I'm sure some will be interested.
