I don't believe ebay is the place to get a good idea of what the value of the car really is.

I believe SAI has sold some anniversary CSX's in the $140K range. Obviously those people were willing to pay the price of admission.

I think the $160K the two CSX's fetched this passed winter at Barrett Jackson are better indicators of what these cars will bring. Also look at the CSX 4000R's that sold for close to $200K at auction.

Because when people start putting down a particular car by laughing at an asking price that is within range of what these cars sell for I take it as a put down to that car and the manufacturer.

Its a two way street here. Don't dish it out if you don't like the food because it will be served up back to you.

I've got nothing to prove. Just returning some of the same medicine being administered.

Just curious. Why didn't you ask the other guys what they have to prove by their comments???

Default Hunter?

What's the resale on a hunter?
If they have an anniversary, I'll bake the cake. Evan, you can detail the frosting.
As for the anniversary car...Whatever the market will endure.
But, 100 years from now, it will still be a Shelby documented by a book larger than the Manhattan yellow pages.
As for the Hunter? I guess it will always be a.....oh well.

Default BARRETT JACKSON

I am very suspicious of the Barrett Jackson sales. My take is that the "buyer biders" were ponds, with so many people watching it would be embarrassing to have a low bid, let alone financially devastating, especially for future sales of the 4000 series. Hey, it's just my take but you still cannot discount my angle.

Barret-Jackson is an entertainment event, loaded with shills. Celebs brought in to "fluff" the buyers. Check prices at other auctions, those are the "real" numbers.

For this replica, at 80k is a generous offer, remember the market for Cobra's replica or kit is saturuated.
At 80k I would consider buying it, and I would have repaint it.

Hotfingrs........

If you paint a picture that exactly replicates the Mona Lisa, then it would be a replica. If Leonardo da Vinci painted another Mona Lisa, there would be no replica attached to that painting. Now....is it a Real da Vinci? I think so!

Mark Roe......

If your still reading this thread, I was just curious if Shelby allowed the buyer to modify their Anniversary Cobra, the way this guy changed his. I've seen your beautiful car in your gallery, and viewed the Anniversary on Shelby's website. I cannot fathom why he changed the entire concept of the car?

Hope to see your car in person one of these days. I plan to be at the BACC breakfast this Saturday.

This argument can never be won. Of course Real1 is gonna be defensive...he has to defend why he spent so much money on a vehicle that IS real but isnt original. Everyone with replicas has to defend why they spent so much money on neither. The debate is goofy...just enjoy the car you could afford when you bought it. IMO the cost of the real ones are just lining the pockets of people that could care less about the larger mass of people that made these cars so popular in the first place. The Real ones only cost 28000 to 35000 to manufacture...c'mon. So the guys that make too much money that can afford to blow it on an overpriced pocket liner, keep belittling the replica guys, and visa versa....on and on and on... sorry for the rant. I see both sides I really do. but I saved for 10 years to buy my replica I didnt buy it with my annual bonus. Even the guys with the "real " ones have to find some kind of respect for that.

Now you guys have to remember that 145K is just the starting bid not necessarily the reserve price.

You go Evan.. we need the joy of debate around here lately.

Evan's replica is a real Shelby Cobra and has every right to defend his choice in brand names.

Gotta go now. Cops is on tv and I want to go make fun of the poor white trash.

Mr. Hotfingers: You sir, are no DiVinci! But as Bill aptly pointed out if DiVinci painted another Mona Lisa well it would be a replica of the first but a REAL Mona Lisa by the original artist.

There is only one Carroll Shelby. Only he can offer a REAL Shelby Cobra.

While the market for "Cobra replicas" may be saturated the number of REAL Cobras ,new or original, from SAI are still pretty limited. Thus maybe explaining the sale price of $160K for the aluminum CSX's at Barrett Jackson, shill or no shill. Also not many "celebs" or shills at the Atlantic City auction which brought in $200K on a CSX 4000R.

How many fake Shelby Cobras sold for $160K at any auction? Has any non Shelby ever sold for more than $100K anywhere? So if Barrett Jackson is not a good indicator of value where people with the money to spend go to buy expesive and collectible cars ebay, which is full of trolls looking for bargains is???? Gimme a break!

While the CSX is more expensive than non REAL Cobra replicas I believe that when adjusted for inflation the new CSX is relatively as expensive as the originals were in 1965. $7000 to $9500 was a boat load of money back then and would even buy you a decent little house. A brand new Vette was what, $4000? The Cobra was nearly twice the price.

Whats a new Vette today? $50,000+? New Cobra=$100K+. Everything still seems in relative proportion to me. Whats the problem? You guys want a Shelby for SPF/Shell Valley or Hunter Prices? Don't blame ya but I don't think its gonna happen.

I could really care less how much my Hunter is worth in 20 years - I bought it to enjoy now, not as an investment. But if it requires having your name in some registry to enjoy your car, by all means, pay the Shelby $75K markup!

But what if da Vinci payed some guy in Poland to paint another Mona Lisa, then da Vinci just signed his name - would it be a real da Vinci? For that matter, what if da Vinci didn't actually paint the original Mona Lisa in the first place, he just bought it from some guy in England, then da Vinci framed it and claimed it as his own work? Oh nevermind....

I think the Cobra on e-bay may well be worth $145K. I think a REAL Shelby Cobra (such as the one on e-bay) is WELL worth the extra money you lay out for it. I think there is a GOOD chance a REAL Shelby Cobra (such as Real 1's) WILL hold or increase in value over time.

I DON'T think there will be a SINGLE bid on the e-bay car because the "timing" is bad, thats all. E-Bay in no way in THIS example of a potential sale tells me ANYTHING about the "value" of a real Shelby Cobra. It's just a "sign of the current times" as it exists ON e-bay right now! Not next month or the month after, who knows? Crystal ball is foggy at the moment.

Hello Everyone,

I wasn't planning on creating any controversy when I posted this car on Ebay, so I decided to clear up a few things.

To Cobish: This vehicle was $100,000+ before the engine and tranny were added. You can buy many Cobras for $80k, unfortunately not this one.

To Dan Semko: I received your e-mail and forwarded it to my boss, you will receive a reply when I get one, sorry for the delay!

To Casaleenie: No reality check, there is room for this car in the hangar until it sells

To Mark Roe: If you were to read the add, you will see this is the only, I repeat, only 40th. Cobra leaving the factory with White Racing Stripes. Also in the text of the add you will see it's a 4-speed Toploader. Finally, I would like to add that this car was ordered with every option available. This car also has all documentation and a build sheet full of the best components money can buy!

To Turk: Yes this is a real 40th cobra with an Aluminum 427 Sideoiler

To Stale_face: This car was produced in 2002 marking the 40th Anniv. of the Cobra. The car was ordered with an aluminum 427 sideoiler.

I hope I cleared up a few unanswered questions, I will be more than happy to answer any more questions you guys might have. As far as this car not being worth the money, that's in the eye of the beholder.

Thank You,

Marko

IB4N......when the fullness of time has come, you will do fine with a sale of this car. I would sure hate to be in a position where I HAD to sell right now.

,,,by the way,,,,could I interest you in a very nice DV built Classic Roadster I have for sale? That and well,,,,,,I guess I could throw in my Excalibur just to sweeten the deal! See, you get TWO cars for one and they BOTH have motors! LOL

Marko,
Whether the car is a 40th. Anniversary or not. Shelby Registry records will tell the buyer what it is, my private email and public post is about the engine.

What Aluminum 427 Sideoiler?
Shelby Aluminum block is NOT a Side Oiler.

It is just a Shelby Aluminum block. That's all!!
You should NOT advertise it as a SIDEOILER. If someone buys it, they may back paddle on you for misrepresenting the engine.
