Default Cobra shootout

This has been talked about before I'm sure.. But I think it would be cool for KITCAR MAG. or ROAD and Track , to do a shoot out between all the replica and real cobras... the usual stuff, drag,roadcoarse,0-60, 60-0, 0-100-0.. 100 mile cruz thru the city streets..
The catch is.. each builder could give it there best shot.. no holds bared... and they could the driver of there choseing... Then do the same test with the mag driver... let the best man win...
That should be fun....Wonder if there would be any takers.. or just talkers....

I think that the only way the "shootout" would be valid would be to have the manufacturers enter a "standard" setup vehicle. In other words, a drag race between a 500 horsepower 427 c.i. CSX car against a SPF with a 600+ horsepower 514 c.i. crate engine wouldn't be fair.

The rules of the shootout could be 500 - 550 horsepower engines (small block and Big Block) and a somewhat "standard" setup (15" wheels, etc..).

If there was a "Extreme Shootout", you could also bring the manufacturers Baddest a$$ setups.

Oh yeah, we could have a "street racer" category.....just kidding!

Al,
I think all of the records that the real Cobras set back in the sixties have all been broken a long time ago with the replicas. In fact a member in our club the DSCC lives down here in Fort Myers that won the Run N Gun some time ago his name is Gary Proia. His Everett Morrison Cobra with slicks all the way around is for sale. It has a 509 Chevy engine. If your interested I could put you in touch so you would have his Cobra all ready to beat those records. If it's already sold maybe someone has already picked up the challenge.

would a top end company really be interested in this? These cars are built to maintain a certain originality. Some manufacturers are ovbiously much more performance oriented in design & maybe less accurate. I would guess these guys would want to show up with all their high cards ready to be played. But maybe a company that really doesn't gave to much to gain by such a competition may just prefer to shine it on.

That said it would be a great article give each company had to install a certain crate motor with identical carb & intakes.

Hell, Kit Car wouldn't even publish a list of the results of the Run & Gun that included the makes of the cars. Probably afraid of pissing off advertisers. So if Kit Car ran a shootoff, the car that would win would not be the fastest, just the one that bought the biggest ad.

Well, I was just thinking of all the talk about who builds the baddest cobra... I would like for the manufactors to build the cars.
say.. olthoff with their baddest spf, the smith boys with their baddest FFR.. and who ever has the gonads to join the fray!!!

IMHO, not that it means anything around here, all the cars must be equipped with equivilent power plants and stock chasis set ups. Otherwise how can you compare? An original should be included with the CSX 4000's also.

Then it would be interesting. Not where each builds their biggest baddest Cobra. What does that prove???

Default It would be cool........

..... but I am with Evan on this one. Same plant, same tires of the same size, same trans and final drive. Standard 'production' suspension. Adjustments I would think would be free though. But no parts changing from test to test.

I don't think it would ever happen though.

Real 1 has a great point, if this were to be a real thing, they should have each entry with the same crate SBF and crate BBF (each mfg to have 2 entries), that way you would be isolating the design of the cobra, otherwise, you would not be able to determine things like suspension/chassis design, anti-roll, wheel spin, wheel hop, aerodynamics, influence from weight, balance etc. If you really want to make it about apples to apples, you get the same driver to perform the test on every car, now how do you find somebody that has no conflict of interest, you'll have to check to see if Elliot Spitzer will be available to supervise the event. Again, keeping with the original post, it was to be a shootout between manufacturers, not engine builders, supertuners and engineers.

There are no standards. These aren't off the showroom floor. They are all custom built to the owner's specifications. You will never get apples to apples.

You need to have runoffs for each invited group. Then the top dog from each group competes. Maybe use street rated tires as an equalizer.
