I got adddicted to moto as a little kid growing up a few doors down from the Webb family. Today, Tom "Wolf" Webb is writting for DirtBike magazine after several years at DirtRider, Mike Webb is the manager of Team Suzuki Off-Road and Jim Webb (Tipper) runs a construction company that contracts for all the factories.

It's a small world. I also remember when Kenny Zahrt was the King of So Cal Moto! Indian Dunes was The Place and International Motorcycles in Canoga Park was selling YZ's w/ "Strap-On" tanks! How about Monarchs and Carabellas: Remember those things? How about the first CR's? Talk about "Revolution Coming"! Coffin tanked CZ's? Joel Robert?

And the real CSX of moto would have to be Maico...the whole going away and coming back again and again thing fits.

My favorite old add: "Kawasaki, we're making the Red guys Green with envy..." featuring Bad Brad!

Roger was the man, wasn't he...?

2-stroke is kinda sweet...too bad the Socialist elitist liberal moto haters are killing it off. The new thumpers are cool; but, it's just not the same. Out here in the "Desert" we drag out THE MOTOR (KX500) and remind everyone who's got the juice. Yeah, I know,"But Honda wins Baja" as all the Red boys say. Truth be told, ever since they (Mexican cop who pulled u-turn in front of him durring the race...) KILLED Danny down there, Kawi won't go back. At least not until another generation that doesn't remember is in charge.

'Til then: We'll all just hang out at the Nationals and the Best In The Desert series and win EVERYTHING in the Deserts of the good ole USA! It's good to be Green!

Hey ! Welcome back Big Bob !!
Boy you sure bring back a bunch of memories for me on motocross. I was dealer sponsored by Yamaha at Calumet Cycle Sales. I managed to do OK but never really amounbted to more than top ten for a few years. Me and Bill Malone were reminencing when we met at Knotts about the old days. I think I still have about half of the trophies I won. I could hardly wait for the Trans AMA to get to Red Bud in October. That was a great time for me. All the great riders there like De Coster. Gabors, D'stefano, Tripes and many more. Seem like yesterday.

Hey, Bob glad to see you back.

It took me till the age of fourteen to start whipping up on the old man. That year he had a '74 250 Elsinore with a GP motor in it. That was one violent bike--even today it still stands out in my mind--probably the violent feeling had a lot to do with the 4.1" of rear suspension travel . But anyway, that was the year I finally started putting it to him. I had been trying since the age of eight.

Eight years old--he jumped off the back while I was "riding" his XL350. Remember that one--about four hundred pounds dry weight--if it fell, I had to wait for someone to come pick it up.

Bob, if you can't decide which bike, take the big Katoom. How about this one: had one of the first Maico 490's ('81) on the East Coast--was riding for Suzuki of Somerville at the time. That was one ferocious beast--similar to the big KTM.

I rode out of District 6 with Mickey Kessler, Bob Sorensen, Patrick Moroney, Tony D., et al. What a great time. Suzuki used to bring Mark Barnett in with a factory bike for one Englishtown race every year, also Johnny O. My last good race memory, the support class at Unadilla '82. Lots of good memories.

If nothing else, we should BS about the old days of bikes--give me a call. Still remember the Adolph Weil (AW) 400 Maicos , air-shocked CZ 400's, Pursangs, etc. from my early years.

Or, if you really want to live dangerously, maybe we can go out for a ride. Don't tell me there are places you can ride out by your house?

Hope to see you at one of the meetings soon.

Yes, there are still a few places to ride up here, but fewer and fewer by the day. Used to ride the KTM dual-sport up to Idylwild thru Anza, but not lately.

One reason that I have strayed away from the moto scene is because of the new generation of supercross kids and tracks in the last decade or so. Mostly hitting the dez with the family, but it's pretty boring after awhile. Until lately...

I've been to El Cajon, Elsinore, etc., and you need a pilots license to ride there. Remember when Bob Hannah would boycott the new style indoor tracks because of the doubles? (Back when Chandler and Bailey were hurt) Well, I banned myself from them too. There is a brand new track up at the Cahuilla Indian Reservation near Anza that is to die for!!! It is as loamy as Mammoth Mountain, has no double jumps, and elevation changes that will have you rejetting your bike at the bottom of every downhill! First time there, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. It is Unadilla, Carlsbad, Mammoth, and Saddleback all rolled up into one. Most tracks, 125's can be giant killers, but this one is a true open-class bike track, and boy, does it get rough. Those supercross-specialist kids are clueless at this track because there aren't 43 jumps. Absolute killer! Anyone who remembers the old style outdoor MX tracks will fall in love again. My 525 is just brutal on this type of track. While the smaller bikes are just coming on the pipe, the bottom end torque of the 4 stroke just launches you out of the turns. Those who are still 2 stroke fans will become 4 stroke believers on this kind of track.

Moto:
zahrt was sponsored by Mid-Valley on a factory Ossa back in '76, and one of his first photo op's/tests was for Rick Sieman just after his DirtBike days, and he was doing no-hands/no-feet jumps 40 feet in the air with nothing on but a helmet, shorts, and sandals on. The guy was an absolute head-case...but with real talent. Zahrt was the king of Indian Dunes.

Bob, I was passing through Anza this weekend on the way to Palm Springs and I looked off to the right and couldn't believe what I saw. It was indeed loamy and some nice elevation changes. My favorite elevation change: Screw U at Unadilla.

Default The REAL Pecking Order!

Hi All,

My first post goes to all my friends with the warped sense of reality....

I thought everyone knew that in the REAL pecking order of Maximum Performance & Quality Per Dollar, the absolute worst position of both the food chain & the pecking order were held by the actual Shelby brand cars.

Not saying they are not nice, I have seen some pretty nice and decent ones but they are rightfully in the bottom position of the REAL pecking order and that's the darn truth, a fact, and the REALity.

Really, I'm not bashing the CSX cars at all. Again I have seen some fairly nice ones. I've even thought about picking one up (if I get a chance) that I can use for track work or maybe to mow the lawn with.

Not insulting anyone, ok

Right back at ya!

PS. Seriously, I really have thought about picking up a CSX or 2 (maybe 3) for track work only.

Hey, excuse this return to the task @ hand; But,

REAL1: Is it true that the CSX2000/3000 folks aren't that warm & cozy with the 4000/7000 folks?

I'm not beein' a smarta$$: I saw a comment to this end and wanted to know if you've had such an experience.

Some people I know in the SAAC environment say that this is a known fact. Is it?

I stumbled on to this during some "takeover" talk. BTW, some friends of mine @ FOMOCO laughed their a$$es off at the suggestion that they might be involved,"Carroll's not too popular around here either..." kinda thing.

No way!!! It was a "typo", last I checked the bid was low $30's.

Surprisingly high I think,,,,,,,,,,,,(and reserve not met yet, hmmm,,,maybe $70K wasn't a typo after all???)!

The 70k bid was retracted, saying that it was a typo...he was bidding 20,000 and hit an extra zero, actually bidding 200,000.
(...now, THAT would have made some news, eh?)

But, the interesting thing is...the way eBay proxy bidding works, if you bid higher than the reserve, it places a high bid at the reserve point...so the "errant-zero"-bid actually revealed the reserve... which was the 70k number... (gasp).

Auction ended with high bid of 33,200, reserve not met.
Item is relisted, now with starting bid of 30k.
