I have been thinking for some time that the CSX Cobra's were really just "rebadged" FFR Cobra's, I guess this proves it!

Just kidding, Evan.

Does this mean us Brown Shirts will finally get a Polo collar??? :D

How thin can we slice the baloney? We'll have "original" CSX's, "real replica" CSX's made by CS, and "fakey-do" CSX's made by FFR?

What if CS is lending his signature in the deal with FFR to buy SAI? Then it really would be a "kick in the pants"!!!

FFR1759K -- 1st BB FFR -- a pre-SAI edition! -- with this kind of lineage -- $100K it's yours!!!

Rich A 05-18-2003 09:28 AM

I hope FFR buys SAI.
SAI needs a reality check.
The only REAL Cobras are CSX 3XXX anyways.
All the rest are REPLICAS!!!!!! even CSX 4XXX.

Ron61 05-18-2003 10:20 AM

Rich,

Actually the CSX 2000 series are real original Cobras too. I agree that the only real originals are the 2000 and 3000 series.

Okay folks... can anyone provide validity to this little rumor? Seems very unlikely that SAI would even entertain the idea, but stranger things have happened.

Business is business and $$ is $$. SAI's financial troubles have been fairly well-publicized lately. Saying that SAI wouldn't likely "entertain" the idea would assume that they have lots of options which they may not have. But who knows.

Still don't know 1st hand if it is true or not though. But others have quoted that the statement of acquisition came right from Dave Smith's mouth at carlisle this weekend...

Kirkham should buy SAI. Save the frieght to Las Vegas!

edit: If I leave my car at their shop long enough maybe I could get a CSX #.;)

xlr8or 05-18-2003 01:59 PM

Mr. Bruce if SAI is using the "Cobra" name under license from Ford and F5 were to leave SAI as a wholy owned subsidiary of F5 they could probably still use the name for SAI cars. Maybe even F5 cars.

Can't wait to see how this one plays out.

Deja Vu?
Tell me it's an aberration and that our missionary has not returned from his pilgrimage to the lost flock. Wayne, when did you return and in what SAI capacity? Will you be attending the Spring Fling with Bob?
Much has changed since your last visit to the forum!;)

southernfriedcj 05-18-2003 02:14 PM

If FFR buys SAI, will they sue themselves??

RACERAL 05-18-2003 03:16 PM

Well you ole' boys just got to know I'm getting a little chuckle out of this..

First off, they were not basically the same bike. But we'll leave that argument for another day.

Otherwise, this is not a fair comparison. AMF was building bowling alley equipment (I know they built more than that, but you get my point) when they bought Harley and knew about as much about building/marketing motorcycles as you know about brain surgery in outer space.

I think FFR has shown as least some of us that they know the replica market! This would be a 'hand in glove' situation as opposed to a 'bowling ball in a diaper'!

Glad to have the FFR bus pull in, and to see the former FFR (now CSX) owners get it all out of their system. For all the abuse they have taken going back to the early days with Curt Scott, they have a reason to celebrate.

As for the Harley Historians, what was it about the Harley Davidson wholly owned by AMF that made it "not the same bike"!

I know about the Bowling Alley association, but what was it about the bikes other than the parent company that made them undesirable?

TURK

Thorin 05-18-2003 05:35 PM

Turk

The AMF era Harley's made prior Harley's look like BMW bikes. And, AMF gave zero dealer support!

I wish the Harley of today had been around when I was in my 20's - I purchased an AMF era Harley.

David Lowell

Turk 05-18-2003 05:41 PM

David,
Unfortunately I bought my first Harley when it became an AMF subsidary. I really didn't have much more knowledge of bikes then I do now, they all looked the same to me. I did take a bath when I sold it. That was one difference I won't forget.

Dealers had bikes coming out of their ears, and anyone with a space could be a dealer.

I used to live in Rochester NY area, and this particluar dealer we went to visit had a barn in the back oif his farm house and dirt floors in the barn. That was the showroom and the shop. Iw ish I could remember exactly what town it was, and the name of the dealer. Geneva or Geneseo comes to the tip of my tongue.
I ended up buying mine from Rochestere HD dealer.

How times have changed. I now have a Harley again. The dealerships look like something you could sell Lexus or MB out of.

REAL 1 05-18-2003 07:44 PM

Mr. Ozona: Still delusional? Oh well. You enjoy your FFR I'll enjoy my Shelby. I have nothing against FFRs, and actually like them, but you obviously can't stand the fact others have purchased Cobras from SAI and the FFR isn't a Cobra. Calling my car and the other CSX's a FSPB or whatever knock is the current FFR rage doesn't change the facts but if it makes you feel better about your FFR go right ahead.

As to the "rumor" of FFR buying SAI, I'll just wait and see. No sense wasting time speculating about a rumor. Sounds far fetched to me but who knows. If it happens maybe it will be a good thing, like the Diamler/Chysler merger.

Turk actually made some very insightful points about any prospective merger and how it could benefit both companies. It may very well also increase the value to pre-merger cars as pointed out by Turk.
