This is more comparable to when Willy and his buddies(Attorneys, as I recall, AAAAAHHHHHEEEEEMMMMMM...) bought H-D back from those "Corporate Types" and turned it into a profitable venture...yes, I do believe we have a legitimate comparison. Hmmmmmm....enthusiasts buy the company and turn it around...and in doing so gain all COPYRIGHT, NAME, DESIGN and MFG control. Turn the "CSX" legacy into an FFR legacy...oh, great business decision...why don't you just call the Smith's "idiots" and get it over with. Now, make SAI a much more profitable "Venture", ooooohhhh that's too good, and show the world how it can be done - all the while lending more credit to your existing product line? As I was asked when I suggested that even the "Continuation" cars are replicas:"Why are you so negative?" :rolleyes: |
If the money was right and the deal looked profitable Shelby wouldn't hesitate to consolidate with FFR (or Rambler for that matter).

Have most Shelby enterprises ultimately cycled into financial troubles, with attendant sales of the companies or assets? I haven't studied these things that closely, but I've been following the car business to some extent as an enthusiast since the 60s, and the question certainly comes to mind. What do you guys think?

Seems to me that Shelby has never had a "single" long term "deal" that lasted more than a few years, outside of the original Cobras (and that was less than 10)
Yet, he has been pretty successful at a whole bunch of deals for shorter periods of time over his life/career. At this stage in his life I would think any new "deals" would be less about "money" and more about "his legacy", but I could be wrong. Money may play a large part of it, I wonder how large? Ernie |

Why do we keep saying the Daimler/Chrysler merger was a good thing. Chrysler, arguably, still makes some of the worst cars out there. And Daimler execs have not been happy at a business level with the deal. The term cultural clash is often mentioned.
BTW, the above statement is not offered as an analogy, just a comment. :D |

If true, FFR would get the Shelby Cobra brand as part of the acquisition. Ford has licensed the Cobra name to Shelby and this license agreement should survive in the event of an ownership change for SAI.
As far as sales strategy for a combined entity, how about this one...probably some combination of FFR's frame and more original bodies (aluminum maybe)? Alternatively, maybe two product lines; 1) Classic FFR, wrench your own or 2) Factory roller, built by SAI using FFR technology. Both under one company, either way, sold as Shelby Cobras. :D :D :D (Al - this one's for you).:cool: |

Shelby was paying $20,000 for aluminum bodies but was selling them at $40,000 over a fiberglass Cobra. FFR wanted to sell aluminum bodies for $6,000, I can't wait until they take over. I hope this is not one of those rumors that Dan Semko has started as he will be getting his butt kicked out of here real soon.:LOL:
