Actually, Dior, my good-man...
This is more comparable to when Willy and his buddies(Attorneys, as I recall, AAAAAHHHHHEEEEEMMMMMM...) bought H-D back from those "Corporate Types" and turned it into a profitable venture...yes, I do believe we have a legitimate comparison. Hmmmmmm....enthusiasts buy the company and turn it around...and in doing so gain all COPYRIGHT, NAME, DESIGN and MFG control. Turn the "CSX" legacy into an FFR legacy...oh, great business decision...why don't you just call the Smith's "idiots" and get it over with. Now, make SAI a much more profitable "Venture", ooooohhhh that's too good, and show the world how it can be done - all the while lending more credit to your existing product line? As I was asked when I suggested that even the "Continuation" cars are replicas:"Why are you so negative?" |
If the money was right and the deal looked profitable Shelby wouldn't hesitate to consolidate with FFR (or Rambler for that matter).
He is at the same time, a great car builder AND a shrewd buisnessman. Ernie |
Have most Shelby enterprises ultimately cycled into financial troubles, with attendant sales of the companies or assets? I haven't studied these things that closely, but I've been following the car business to some extent as an enthusiast since the 60s, and the question certainly comes to mind. What do you guys think?
TT |
Ok Evan don't let them get your panties in wad over this one until it's confirmed. Just because you may end up related to the FFR boys by marriage doesn't mean they will want to kiss their new cousin.
   |
Seems to me that Shelby has never had a "single" long term "deal" that lasted more than a few years, outside of the original Cobras (and that was less than 10)
Yet, he has been pretty successful at a whole bunch of deals for shorter periods of time over his life/career. At this stage in his life I would think any new "deals" would be less about "money" and more about "his legacy", but I could be wrong. Money may play a large part of it, I wonder how large? Ernie |
Car show: camera on overhead dolly pans row upon row of shiny metal, zooming in on roadster.
Teen age boy walks by, stops in front of roadster, astonished look on face. Close up to pimply face: Boy: "Gee mister, a Cobra! Is it real?" Close up to man, sweating profusely, seated in portable chair, wearing tee shirt that reads Shelby, The Legend Continues. Evan: "That son, depends on what the meaning of is, is. " |
Correction to script:
Evan: "Yes, son it is a REAL Shelby Cobra" Its just that simple. ;) |
"Yes, son, it was made by Shelby, but it is not an original cobra."
|
Although it is a sweet cobra!!!

Didn't VW buy either Rolls or Bently and the other went to BMW??
I didn't understand essentially splitting that up as they are basically the same |
Why do we keep saying the Daimler/Chrysler merger was a good thing. Chrysler, arguably, still makes some of the worst cars out there. And Daimler execs have not been happy at a business level with the deal. The term cultural clash is often mentioned.
BTW, the above statement is not offered as an analogy, just a comment. :D |
Hey,
I thought it was Everett-Morrison that was buying SAI and that the sale would increase the value of my car! On the EM website they say that they will be back in business by early summer. Hmmm, could be... Only kidding, but come on... can't we find something real to argue about instead of just rumors? I've got one; how about 15 inch wheels vs. 16, 18 and 20 inchers? - Dan |
If true, FFR would get the Shelby Cobra brand as part of the acquisition. Ford has licensed the Cobra name to Shelby and this license agreement should survive in the event of an ownership change for SAI.
As far as sales strategy for a combined entity, how about this one...probably some combination of FFR's frame and more original bodies (aluminum maybe)? Alternatively, maybe two product lines; 1) Classic FFR, wrench your own or 2) Factory roller, built by SAI using FFR technology. Both under one company, either way, sold as Shelby Cobras. :D :D :D (Al - this one's for you). |

Huh? I'm an FFR customer, Curt Scott personally branded me a "brownshirt" years ago, I consider the Smith brothers friends of mine, and you're accusing me of calling them idiots? I've re-read my post several times. I'm baffled. All I am saying is that FFR will probably be more successful than AMF was in taking over a "mark" like SAI or Harley. Again, your point is...? |
Bill:
C'mon!!! That hurts. I own 2 Dakota Quad Cab Pickups and a Durango. I just got them paid off. I can't afford to do another trade in. |
Cal, I said Chyrsler Cars. :D I am an admirer of the Dodge truck line.
|
Should say: "Yes son it's a real Shelby Replica".
SAI Replica value before FFR buyout: $75K -$120K. SAI Replica value after FFR Buyout: $30K  ........  Ed |
Shelby was paying $20,000 for aluminum bodies but was selling them at $40,000 over a fiberglass Cobra. FFR wanted to sell aluminum bodies for $6,000, I can't wait until they take over. I hope this is not one of those rumors that Dan Semko has started as he will be getting his butt kicked out of here real soon.
