They are asking $315k for that GTO "Rebody". It has been on Ebay several times. As best I recall, the highest bid it got was approx 177k.

Beautiful cars, the 250 GTO. Probably the most coveted Sports Racer of them all. The last one at public auction went for over $7,000,000. You have to give it to the Italians when it comes to great automotive designs.

CalMetal,
Agreed. 250 GTO are true works of art. Think the highest price at auction (known) was $13.5mm!!!!

Must be nice...

Shaps:

Actually, the number was $16,000,000, purchased from a Swiss couple, but that price, like the correct $13,000,000 you quoted, was back in the '89 bubble. I was referring to the most recent auction which was about a year ago.

BTW, the $13,000,000 car sold in '89 or '90, sold for $2.7 million about two years later. A Japanese investor took a beating.

Well it ain't no million dollar car, that's for sure. Neat rebody idea, but still just a conglomeration of parts. Kinda like the replica Cobras we all love so much!

If that guy can get near $100K, I'd be very surprised. Ferrari collectors are a finiky bunch and not much interested in "wannabe" cars.

If I were the seller, I wouldn't have said much about the "straight cut gears". They don't shift worth a poop and howl like a banshee. Takes real finesse to change gears up or down. BTW a 330 is a sedan!

The thing that makes this car somewhat valuable to the right person is that it can be vintaged raced, which, if you are a Ferrari lover, gets you into the paddock for a pretty low cost, even if it is $250,000. I think this car has been at Elkhart Lake the last few years. I think there are a few of these around.

Talking Mike...I'm being fearless here by professing ignorance...

......BUTT I was up at a "Cobra Paddock" at a local car-show and there was some decent machinery aboard. Out of six Cobras---four had the Accusump cylinders in evidence. The owners swore that those things could "save your engine". I asked if they were pains-in-the ass, and they said "no way", "best thing going", "indispensable for autocross", etc. So what's the knock against Accusump...?

A Snake,
you were dead on. auction expired at 81.1k

It is interesting, seems the pattern on EBay is that the first auction brings the highest prices. After that, if reserve is not met, subsequent auctions never hit the previous high.

Just an observation....
