speedo problem

I have a toploader and vdo electronic speedo. Today the speedo didn't start working until about 5 minutes down the road. Then it was fine. It did the same thing at lunch time. What should I look at first to repair? Any Suggestions?

MY VDO READS ONLY THE SPEED REACHED. IF I ACCELERATE MY SPEEDO STAYS STILL UNTIL I LET UP ON THE PEDAL THEN NEEDLE GOES TO CORRECT SPEED. SLOWING IS OK.
I HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP DEADWOOD AND ME WITH OUR VDO SPEEDOS.
