Shelby American is alive and kicking..
In light of recent spirited discussions, it is worth reporting that SAI is very much alive and kicking.
I just got back from the dinner at SAAC-28, and Carroll Shelby (among many others) gave a little after-dinner talk.
Most significant: He proudly announced..
"...after all these years, I am now back with Ford Motor Company"
He is working with the new Mustang and there is talk, but nothing firm, about a new Shelby version. (nothing to do with the GT500E-style of "new" shelby, this would be a deal with Ford)
He also said that "...there will be a new Cobra.
Carroll said there will be some significant announcements over the next three months that will let them compete in the replica market "at every price level." And that they will be building cars off-shore.
...just passin' it on.

Word over at GT40s.com is that Shelby is going to be using a South African company that will be coming out with a GT40 replica. No word on if Shelby will bring the GT40 in or not, but this company supposedly will be making his Cobras. The company is in Cape Town if I remember correctly, but I can't remember the name. Fellow by the name of Andre posted this and he is a former member of CAV and has worked with many SA companies before.

Maybe he's going to make them in Taiwan!
Then sell them at discounted prices through Walmart!

IMHO, I think it sucks.. thats what we need is another anti-AMERICAN car...if they can't make it here, screw em' . At least the Smith Brothers at Factory Five Racing are creating some American jobs...

Good move brother Al.
This should change the thread completely. Now we will hear from SPF owners, Free Trade advocates, and NAFTA folks.
It is OK, it will give the Shelby folks a chance to recover from the recent non-events.
Brace your self, and get some more Pop Corn.

Shelby has said for some time that he is working with Ford on a "new" Cobra. While I'm sure the new Cobra will be "modern" like the GT (GT40) and the Thunderbird, I wonder why Ford would want Shelby to still make Cobra's and even his own GT40 relica?

Worse Evan,
Ford has a "Better Idea" and if Shelby lends CSX designations to the new cobras, the resale market will be softer than Charmin.
I believe that Turk and I predicted this revitalization 2 years ago and many thought it was just a "senior moment"

Evan,
You have email. You must respond soon, unless you want to sleep in your trailer at Spring Fling.

Interesting...
If Polish labor is able to make a car that is impossible to make in the current US labor market due to cost, laws, etc...
And by virute of the fact the Poles can make the cars effectively I have a job and can employ about 10 guys here in the States to assemble, etc...
So,
My question is--If I make carsoff shore am I actually CREATING US jobs?

Assolutely. Besides, you don't have available prisoners to step in because there's a need to keep the firing squads employed.

Makes a lot of sense to me David.
Say, how many Poles does it take to make a Kirkham anyway?
(man does that sound like a loaded question or what?, LOL)

Dan,
If Ford and Shelby come out with a new, original, real cobra, I don't think it will be anything like the old original cobra's. I don't think Ford will reproduce a car with a thin aluminum body, no windows, no locks or outside door handles. I don't Ford will start reproducing 427 SO's again either. I would think the car would have all modern comforts, with a 4.6 DOHC engine or something like that. Ford can't use CSX #s, as used before. All vins have to be a 17 digit code, of which Ford has some designated characters.
If Ford comes out with a new, original, real cobra, I'm not sure if it will affect the current CSX4000 cars, (deflate them) as the new cobra will likely be completely different. I would think the new cobra is directed towards a different buyer, different market to some degree.
Will the new, original, real GT40's affect the old originals?

Ron/computerworks;
I wish I had known you were at SAAC 28, I was there and would have found you, would have liked to met you.... Met up with Poorboy and Jim Maxwell in the garage area, talked with Poorboy for a while and spent some time with Jim and his cars, saw him later saturday night at the hotel doing the same thing our crew was doing (relaxing with a drink or two or more).....
We left for home (10 hour drive) Sunday am,figured the weather was going to be bad sunday morning.... Will they run the Vintage races today (Monday) or just cancel them out????? Have a friend from Louisiana racing in them #51 B,white with blue stripes 65-GT350,he qualified fourth, just wondering how he did if they did get to race....
David
