Do You Have a Soft top for your Cobra?
I am usually the only Cobra at a car show with the top on. It fits in the trunk; the "top bows" are split, and it all goes in the trunk, and I put the top on at the show, and take it off before I leave the show. I just LOVE the wind blowing thru my full head of hair!!! lol !!!

Edley,
FWIW, I asked the Kirkhams about a soft top recently, and the response was,
"We have only had one other request for a top and the customer took it off after driving from our shop..... and never put it on again. "
I believe ToyCollector just got KMP249, so that makes 1 out of almost 250 cars.

Cobras look REALLY odd with the tops on, I must admit!

The top was a nod to wifey, who continues to point out "how IMPRACTICAL the car is, and what if it were to rain while we were out in it."
After showing her the response from the Kirkhams, she dropped it.
Sh*t, I hope she doesn't read this board......

I have a soft top and wouldn't give it up. I also live in Oregon. I take the Cobra out even if the weather looks like it may rain. If it does I put the top on and head home. I actually like the looks with the top on for variety, but if the sun is out the top is in the trunk. I too show it once in awhile with the top on for variety or especialy if it happens to rain.

well, i have three, the last one is the new Superformance fabric top, it is cut much lower than the earlier vinyl tops. Three bar, not as fast to put up, but tight and quiet, and pretty dry in the rain.
I can't imagine not carrying a top with me, here in SC.

Love my soft top
I haven't got my new FFR put together yet, but it will have one of my folding soft tops.
I had a store-in-the-trunk-top that I built, I believe that it was more weather proof than the original style but still not quite what I wanted, so I designed and built a better one, that didn't take up any trunk space.
We drove my old LAE for over seven years and 40k miles including about ten trips to Idaho and Wyoming, where I came from, and many more trips than that through the Nevada and California deserts going to car shows.
We found that the top was very nice in the high country when there is still snow on the ground.
We got a lot of use out of it on cold foggy early mornings going to local car shows here on the California coast.
We probably appreciated it most in a couple torrential downpours that caught us in southern California. We drove in very heavy rain for about four hours, close to 250 mles once.
We found that the top was very welcome in the desert heat, as well, when we used it to keep the hot sun off, and sit in the shade, with the side windows removed.
I plan on being as active with my FFR as I was the LAE.
A top allows one to take what ever one encounters along the way and keep on rollin' and roarin' down the road in comfort.

I have one of rick's folding tops too. It's been awesome (and will be for whoever buys my car - plug plug!). You can see some pics of it in my photo gallery.

Have a soft top AND a matching hardtop
And I think they look great.. very British sportscar
Do I use them much? Nope.. tonite in cool weather I drove 35 miles home from bagpipe practice with a leather coat, RAF leather helmet and goggles and gloves on
Soft top is there for when traveling.. hardtop will soon have locking lexan side windows for when I want to leave her parked, as I will this fall at Oktoberfest.

I use mine a lot, for the SUN more than anything. Check out the pic in my gallery. I was running SCCA Solo II with the top on that day. Actually, I think it looks pretty good with the top on.

I've got a top on mine, and have used it several times since the start of last month. Then again, I drive my car all year round, in all sorts of weather, so for me, it only makes sense to have a top..........

I'm going to drive my car about 3000 miles home when I pick it up in the first week of August. Beside protection from rain or hot sun, I would think a top would discourage people from hopping in when it's parked in a lot. It would also keep dust out when the car's not in use.
How is a soft top at 70mph?

Have just posted a picture of mine taken last weekend at the Brooklands Museum which is about 1 mile from the AC factory where it was built. Yes I know it's ugly but when you live in a country that is famous for it's rain you do need to have some protection from it. By the way in answer to SSS's question it is just fine at 70mph.

Have optional fabric soft top from Classic Roadsters, along with side windows. The bows are split, and the whole thing folds up in the trunk where it's usually kept.
More than once have I parked under a bridge to put it on when it started raining. And I drive it in the rain anyway. (17" tires give excellent wet road traction, and the windshield wipers, and defroster works).
Also, I drive it in spring, fall, and winter and just button it up.
I don't drive it in ice or snow, or below about 20 deg. The plastic windows get brittle and crack.

Edley,
My "softop" is really a "hardtop". It has the attractive angles of the softop, stays mostly dry inside and stays on at high speeds.
I tried a softop and found it totally useless. It blocks your view, flaps like a crazed vulture, directs rainwater all over your body and limits your speed. Why bother?

Check with CRZN427 - his profile says he makes "folding convertible tops for Cobras".

I have both hard and soft. Been riding around this week a bit in the 20s (heat wave), so it works well.
