Starter motor heat soak
Hi guys.
After fitting Tremec with new starter I am now experiencing the problem of heat Soak. When hot, starter motor will not even actuate until it cools down. I fitted themal shielding directly around the motors body, but I think this may have made it worse as on a long run, it is probably keeping the heat in, or thats my guess.
There is not enough room between the headers and the starter to get a heat shield with an air gap so I am thinking do I need a mini high torque starter.
Do they work, anybody got any experience that has had this problem. Also is it possible to change the orientation of the solenoid.
Any help would be very welcome.
Thanks.
Mike.

Had the same problem with a small block chevy and headers....
The mini starter AND a heat shield worked perfect for me back then..

I use a ford starter solenoid and bypass the one on the starter on my chevy due to that. Connect the lug on the top of the chevy solenoid to the battery cable lug (where you short the circuit with a screwdriver to start it up during hot start) run the wire that used to trigger the chevy solenoid to the ford solenoid, and interrupt the battery cable with the ford solenoid. People sell kits to do this exact thing.

Shame on you for putting a Chevy engine in a Cobra.
You didn't put a "Powered by Ford" sticker on the side of your car, did you!? This is Blasphemy! You can be drawn, and quartered for this.
Somebody...give this guy a real Ford engine for his Cobra.

Used a mini starter on my 460. No Shield. Starts just fine, now.
Cut the man some slack, Jack.

I have a high torque mini starter on my BIG BLOCK Chevy engine and now it starts everytime. No heat shield because as you said it helps hold the heat in.
