Default Ferris Bueller's Day..........at Auction

I have to disagree with Keith Martin, Editor of Sports Car Market, in his final comment on this car. With originals going for $1,000,000+, this looked like a pretty nice car for the money--fakey do or not. I think the "six carb" description is wrong; maybe they meant a "six pack" in the trunk. The final price was certainly cause for celebration.

Weigh in with your comments.

Sweet car! I would have liked to build a fakey-doo just like it. Like my Cobra, I wouldn't get all paranoid leaving it unattended for 10 minutes at the Dairy Queen with my kids.

"Real" ones are for museums my "tribute" car is for driving.

Life is too short not to enjoy it!

Cal - Who wouldn't want a replica of such a beauty, especially at what seems to be a reasonable price, if the car is really done well.
I think that I'd be very particular about authenticity on a Ferrari replica, much more so than a Cobra replica. I don't know exactly why that is, I just feel that a Ferrari has a certain aura that must be captured, while a Cobra has an aura of a hot rodded sports car. If that replica had the aura, then it's a true bargain. Does that make any sense? Interesting price that it went for. Does that auction take bids in ten dollar increments? It must have taken a long time to get to $54,060.00!

Default Sounds like a fair price to me!

Ha ha,,,,six pack in the trunk, I like that!

Perhaps the reference to 6 Weber carbs is the appearance of three single "double throat" Weber carbs? It's easy to mistake them for "two" carbs if you don't know what your looking at.

I recall tuning such Weber Carbs on a "real" Ferrari "back in the day" for a customer. I used a vacuum gauge on each carb to synchonize them. Interestingly enough it WAS a lot like setting up each "barrel" almost like it was in fact a "single" carb.

Not to mention the FOUR sets of points divided between the TWO distributors. And don't even get me started on the valve adjustment,

The best part? The test drive of course! Ahhh, those were the days, my Ferris Bueler days.

Ernie

The price seems about right -- if slightly high. The Webers and the gauges probably helped it get up there. I've seen a couple listed somewhere (ebay perhaps) in the $40K's.

By the way, the Modena is not supposed to emulate any one Ferrari, so I think the "how authentic is it" question is kind of moot.

It is a roomy car (much more so than a Cobra) -- I sat in one at Knotts a few years ago, and has won various kit car awards for quality of construction. I think you could duplicate one for close to that figure -- and you could say "yes, it's an original -- original Ferris Buhler car!

The nice thing about the car is that you never have to refer to it as a Ferrari---- it is the "Ferris Buehler" car. That will resonate more with the average citizen than "250 GT California Spyder".

Talking Would you?

How many of you would sell your Cobras for $54,060.00 ?

Have to ask yourself, is it real, or just your imagination?

Way to early for this type of thinking, good morning!!!!

I spent some time with a gentlemen and his at the Santa Cruz pier last year when he parked next to me. He described his as being a "sister" to the Bueller car. Not a bad piece--pretty nicely done and a head turner.

Jamo:

They are a head turner, thats for sure. Would have to give serious consideration to one of those. Hard to beat the Italians when it comes to styling. They cover all the bases--and then some.

Unhappy

Precision Design, I believe...I spoke with them a year or so ago regarding a kit. I kind of backed off when they couldn't come up with any kind of build manual. Actually they didn't seem all that interested in selling a kit at all. Nice People though...
