Well, I'm in the process of insuring a Cobra replica now. In Texas, the only major insurer I know of that covers Cobras is State Farm. They only offer liability coverage, and it's not cheap for what you get. In my case, they also insisted I insure my other cars with them, and their rates are double what I'm paying now for the same coverage.

The cheap alternative is classic car insurance. I contacted classiccarinsurance.com. They offer comprehensive coverage at very low cost. But, they have mileage limits and require you to only drive the car to shows. They also require you to have a regular use vehicle for each adult in the household in addition to the Cobra.

If anyone else knows more, I'd be interested to hear it.

Instead of just coming here to ask a question why don't you give us a little more info about yourself and your Cobra. Like, where are you from? What kind of Cobra, your age, etc. It's like you just walked into a crowded room. Y'know like introduce yourself to us.

By the way I use American Collectors

I could not find anyone to insure mine. I called about every insurance company I could find, including the ones that specialize in collectors and show cars. I finally called Progressive. I got the same coverage I carry on my daily drivers and was insured when I hung up the phone.

I had a heck of a time finding insurance. Turned down 9 times not due to my record (1 moving) but due to the type of car. Progressive finally wrote my policy.

Got mine with State Farm at a good rate and a $35K agreed value. Only catch is 7500 miles per year and nobody under 50 can drive it!!

Works for me!!

If you're a Vet, USAA has the best deal going. To them, it's just another car.

Coosawjack,
I have an inquiry into State Farm right now.
Can I ask what number they gave you per year?
Thanks

Default INSURANCE

I JUST BOUGHT INSURANCE WITH AMERICAN COLLECTORS INS. ONE YEAR $653, $40,000 DECLARED VALUE. HAD TROUBLE WITH ALL THE OTHER COMPANIES. IF YOU TELL THEM YOU HAVE A MODIFIED CAR THE RATES ARE VERY HIGH. THEIR NUMBER IS 800-360-2277 OR YOU CAN GET A QUOTE ONLINE.http://www.americancollectorsins.com/

Default State Farm?

I just got off the phone with State Farm and they told me they don't insure replicas. . . kit cars. . .

What do I tell them?

Here are other companies to try:

Condon & Skelly 800-257-9496

Tri State Insurance Company (limited states) 800-533-0303

JC Taylor - 800-345-8290

I forgot the name, but the rep is Robbin: 800-271-4000

i have my car with a company that has insured me for over 35 years. No limits, no restrictions.

But i think you have to talk face to face with your local family agent, someone who has a reason to try to help you. You need someone on the inside fighting for you, not a faceless person on the other end of the phone.

Although, i suspose that even people on the other end of a phone actually do have a face, it's just that you can't see it.

Anyway, you need "a friend in the business" to argue for you.
