Fuel pump Mallory140gph or BG220 etc
Going through the different fuel pumps available, line size and location ideas!
Had a Holley Blue, 3/8" line, in first FE406 car, very noisy with pressure regulator but no return line.
Looking at either Mallory 140gph with bypass valve to tank, or BG220 with bypass to tank, the Mallory has 3/8" inlet and outlet, while the BG220 has 10AN (1/2"ID) for the inlet/outlet of pump, and 8AN (3/8") for the bypass.
I will mount the pump right beside the tank with intake line level with pickup, all this will be feeding a 500+bhp windsor for racing and road, I think the Mallory is quite running, has smaller lines, which should be adequate for this application? the BG220 is a bit smaller for easier fit to car, but has these large fittings, which may make everything concerned larger than need be?
Anyone used either of these pumps for noise and reliability, ability etc?

WHEN I BUILT THE SECOND ENGINE FOR MY ERA I WENT WITH THE HOLLY WITHOUT THE RETURN LINE. 140GPH MAY BE A BIT MUCH. I DYNO AT 650/640 FTLBS. AND RAN ONLY ON THE TRACK. SINGLE 850 HOLLY. HAD NO PROBLEMS. WORD OF CAUTION, MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL A OIL PRESSURE SHUT OFF SWITCH IN CASE YOU HAVE A "PROBLEM" AND THE FUEL PUMP WILL SHUT OFF.

Pump shut off
Terry,
I suppose a manual electrical shut off switch would do, and also it would make the car harder to steal!
I didn't like the idea of the Holley going all the time, and would prefer a circulating pump system which should cool the pump better and increase reliability, having said that my first car is now over 10 years old and on the same Holley Blue!

ANT,
LET ME SHARE A STORY WITH YOU ON THE MANUAL SHUT OFF IDEA. I SOLD MY ERA ABOUT A YEAR AGO. IT WAS REALLY A DEDICATED TRACK CAR AND I WAS STARTING TO GET ALITTLE BEYOND THE ENVELOPE. ANYWAY, THE FUEL PUMP WAS WIRED TO THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE GUY WHO BOUGHT THE CAR WAS DOING SOMETHING STUPID AND HIT A WALL IN A PARKING LOT AT ABOUT 80. THE PASSENGER WAS THROWN OUT, HE WAS NOT WARING THE 5 POINT HARNESS, HIT THE STERRING WHEEL/ WINDSHIELD AND OUT COLD. CAR CATCHES FIRE WITH THE ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP PUMPING 110 OCTANE. HE DID LIVE, BUT BURNED PRETTY GOOD. THE MANNUAL SHUT OFF FOR THEIF IS A GOOD IDEA. IN 1968 MY 289 COBRA WAS STOLEN. THAT CAR RAN DUEL ELECTRIC PUMPS BECAUSE OF THE WEBERS. I HOOKED UP A KEY SWITCH IN THE TRUNK AND LET NO ONE KNOW. BY THE WAY, I WOULD USE A FUEL REGULATOR . THINK MINE WAS SET AT 6-7 PSI. GOOD LUCK.

Fuel pump
Terry,
Thanks for that, and this gasoline is dangerous stuff, will make it as safe as I can.
Regarding fuel line size, as my car wont have the g forces as a full blown race car, having larger than 3/8" fuel lines is probably unecessary, but I may try an run 1/2" ID all the way through the system.
