Thank you Turk for your words.

I was trying to think of something to say along those line but never could do it so well.

Turk, For a Gashole, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. Time to get back to the basics of this event.

I have been to all three events and only brought my Cobra to the second event, a trip of 1,152 miles each way from Florida. When I towed up the Cobra all the driving was on me as the wife will not drive with a trailer swinging from the back of the vehicle. I decided to leave the Cobra at home as in the past three years I have seen thousands of Cobras. This way the wife actually helps out with the driving chores on our trip up. I come each year to meet with old friends and also make new ones. I have Cobra friends that become snowbirds and visit me in Florida when the weather turns bad in Ohio. I had my best friend and his wife from Ohio drive down to visit with us all day in London. My wife’s daughter and her daughter came to spend the weekend with me and my wife to help celebrate the wife’s birthday. I come for the picnic and BS sessions and will more than likely be there again next year if there is plans for another picnic.

TURK- I largely agree with what you said, with a couple of observations.
1) Most of us weren't in the Oval Office with Bill and Monica Lewinsky, but we still had an opinion on what went on, which we talked about incessantly.
2) As a admitted "died in the wool" fkn' waxer, I have no desire to prove my manhood by driving my car faster than it is safe for me to do so ( but I do drive the crap out of my twin turbo 300ZX and my riding lawnmower ), but I think you ought to have some kind of organized way for 283 Cobra's to gun it at least a little bit. To think that an event with that many Cobra's NEVER gunning it will happen is even less likely than having a burnout on main street without somebody overdoing it. At least with the burnouts on main street, most people knew what was happening, and could choose to leave the area if they felt unsafe, but if there were no burnout areas, people would be randomly gunning it, and whipping around corners in areas where pedestrians would not be expecting it.
Have the event organizers post a big bond to cover the city in the event of a mishap. Let the tree trunks do their thing and thin the herd a little bit, but, if you value your freedom or your children's inheritance, don't wrap your Cobra around a tree with anybody in it except yourself!

Turk, well said. Thanks for your usual well thought out remarks. I hope there is a IV, had more fun than I ever expected. As you said, it's about the people.

Turk, I agree with you 99% (My wife liked to auto(cobra) cross this year, she had a blast), so I would keep the non-race race.

It was a pleaseure talking AT you as you lost your voice "cheering" on the drinking "races."

I don't know why some people think unkindly of the Ga$holes, as thay have alwasy been gentlely to this FFR owner. Or maybe they don't know I 'race' a FFR?????

Anyway, DV does an OUTSTANDING job and no matter what HE says goes for SP IV, my wife and I will be there, come Hell or high water.

Spring Fling is a GREAT function and serves a greater cause than just allowing Cobra owners bragging rights. I have supported DV and all those associated with the Fling with everything but my presence and that is only because of scheduling conflicts. Furthermore my continued support will be there next year regardless of the agenda, whether I make it or not. The cause is Right!

Sure I would like to see some other options but not at the risk of loosing any support Spring Fling has amassed to this point. I plan on being there next year, God willing.

Turk brought up a good point about having several events going at the same time. In Tulsa they have a group that races and a group that does something called a Pony Cruise and then there is the other group that stays at the hotels recovering from the night before. In the evenings everyone gets together for social time. That works for Tulsa because that format has been going on for 29 years. As I understand it the Spring Fling is an opportunity for Cobra owners to get together and BS and show off a little while supporting a worthy cause.

The problem is that I think this thread is drawing a line between Cobra owners that is totally unecessary. There is room for everyone. Hell, I like steak and lobster. The efforts that go into putting on the Spring Fling are huge and I challenge anyone to attempt to put on a better event.

Great job Ed, Tom, Jay, and everyone associated with DVSF III.

Even though I'm not a Cobra owner but drove my Z06 to the Spring Fling, I enjoyed every minute of it, however, I thought that the crowd was allowed to be too far in front of the cars doing burnouts up to speed. I was glad that no one lost control or broke an axle and veered onto the sidewalks and ruined a perfect weekend.

My 2 cents.

Now on the lighter side: What kind of driver are you?

I was one of the 283 that had a blast and enjoyed all the events. I enjoyed meeting a lot of people face to face that had only read about. Chris, I guess Vic is doing a lot of pleading with the wife to get that cobra. Quite contageous after you have been around that many cobras in an event like the fling. Turk, It was a pleasure to finally meet you in person and I agree with you 99.9 %. I think the way the event at the airport was setup really great because it got the people a chance to experience different types of driving in a cobra that they may or may not get a chance to do in a controlled safe setting. Just like my kids T-ball games: No score kept and the players are paid to play. An event without times kept is the way everybody goes home winners and safely. Everybody that came to this event is a winner and they should go home as winners. The fling should not change that about a person. I agree with Brett that you need to have some type of forum for the owners and non-owners to have fun (Gun it or flog it a little) with their car. Which helps raise money for Jenny. I agree with Turk the event is about people, picnic, cookies, Jenny, and safety. Anything that is done without these things in mind from the beginning is a waste of time and money.

I want to thank Ed, Tom and Jay for having us and hope they have us back again. It is a total win-win situation and I will make sure that I am back again next year if there is a IV. I would not miss it for the world.

I hate it when people agree with me only 99.9%.

What the hell is wrong with .01% of what I said. You can't deduct for spelling errors.

Stephen,
We just didn't know!!
We thought you at least had a SPF or something.

Turk, maybe I'll keep my face (and name tage) hidden for the next SF and you'll not know you are speaking with me. Oh, well, it's probably worse for you, afetr all, if the Ga$holes know that you were talking with a FFR owner ..................

P.S. LOVE your car, you da man. Ya, and I loved your ERA too.

If I agreed 100% it would not give you all anything to talk about.

1%...

There was no "splitting up" of folks due to events. The autocross involved far more folks than we thought would show up, and their multiple runs showed their interest. The ONLY concern was the last minute shrinking of the course--which can be dealt with in the future. The SCCA, as always, did a great job. I think the only conflicting event was a Porsche rally, which kept some folks from attending.

As I've set forth in another thread, I think one day (or half day) of "hot" driving activities is enough. Let the rest of the time resort back to the traditional Fling. Everyone gets some of what they want.

I am a Safety Steward. I was not the Safety Steward at this event. The Region used their own folks, which makes sense since they designed the course.
