Tulsa Shelby Meet Last Weekend
Hello Everyone! Everyone is talking about the DV meet in Ohio, so I figured I'd see if I can get some people talking about the HUGE Shelby show in Tulsa last weekend.
It was the first time I have been, and I had a blast. I got to meet Clois Harlan and see his car run around Hallet.
Several weeks prior to the event I had gotten hold of Roger Upton and spent that time helping him get his race car together for the meet. It ran and made a few laps around before something we missed caught up with us. If you'd have seen how far along the car was 3 weeks prior, you'd never believe it would have run by the event!
The weekend had road track racing, drag racing, a car show and a swap meet. All in all, I was thoroughly impressed with the size of the event and enjoyed meeting a bunch of new enthusiasts.
Anyone else go or have any stories?

Well most of the Dallas crowd makes this an annual event....you didn't make it to Cobra Corner did you? We have an area that we block off that is just for Cobra's (and anyone we want to let in) Its kind of funny because we have had times where the original 2000-3000 cars outnumber us...really cool...
Margarita's, cajun food....its a hell of a time....I pick Tulsa over anything else every time.
Make sure and stop by next year...you get to meet a really good group of guys.

Hey Matt
I saw a grouping of cobras out there. I will definitely stop by next year and say hey. Unfortunately for me, I'll still be lookin instead of showin & racin for the next few years. I figure by the time I'm ready to build, there won't be any more decisions to make. I'll have it all in my head and I'll just have to buy and build it! Then I can have my own space in the "Cobra Corner"

I was there also. Last year was my first, and it was the most fun I'd ever had at any car event. The Thursday cruise in was great, and will be much bigger next year as the group running old route 66 are supposed to time it so that they are there at the same time as we are. The people that run the event are the best; in particular Earl Groves has really tried to make everyone feel at home. There is something for everyone at this event. I am already looking forward to next year-I'm going to get there a day earlier.

Tulsa
The event went very well I thought. Thursday and Friday track times or cruises was a blast and the Thursday night was a blast and the Sunday car show and swap meet came off very well too. Lots of people and plenty of vendors. I believe the vendors had every part imaginable including a few sets of Hilborne FI set ups. I saw any number of bare blocks (cast and aluminium).
If you didn't get to the Texas Cobra Corner you really missed a lot of fun. Doug Reed and Ronny made Jambalaya and Texas club had their margarita machine going until late thirty. These Texas Cobra Club members are some of the finest people you could ever want to be around. I am sorry John Russel and the grand poupan (or whatever) Toms Meadows couldn't make it this year. However, John, Matt, Steve, Keith and all the others did a great job making everyone feel welcome. Even the band was pretty good once they quit playing CCR. Thanks to all the people from Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, California, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Arkansas, and yes even Ohio as well as several other states I am sure I forgot.
All in all there was a great turnout and everyone had a good time. Next year is susposed to be even bigger and better... I just hope it doesn't coincide with DVSF IV so both our attendences will even higher.

I totally agree with you. Isn't the Tulsa event usually the 2nd weekend in June? I went to the Shelby and DVSF both last year.
I emailed Ed Combs and asked if he could move his event and he said too much would be required. Let's see if the Shelby folks can move it up a week.
See you in Baton Rouge.

The event is usually the 2nd week in June but was pushed back a week because of the ford 100th celebration...we also hit the US Open a couple of years ago.....for me it won't matter...I don't plan on doing DV so whenever Tulsa is I will be there.

Tulsa Pictures
The Tulsa Mid America Shelby meet was an absolute blast. Caught up with old friends, made many new friends and got to put a face with many club cobra handles.
For those who are interested I have posted some pictures of the event. I sure hope the link works, here goes.
