Car Trailers
I have seen it but didn't pay any attention to it because I didn't think I would ever not drive my car, but I need a trailer for storage and transportation. Anyone know what the old thread was?
Anyone with experience and recommendations. Two axels to cut down on sway? Enclosed ? Security? Brakes ?
I would like to tow it with a small SUV. Aluminum would be nice to keep down the rust because we are close to the Ocean and it would also keep the weight down but I realize it maybe out of my price range. Pretty cheap 3 to 4 thousand maybe 5 but it would have to be re-nice.

I have had a Pace,United Expressline,Haulmark, and a Classic. The Classic was the nicer unit but priced that way as well. The pace was the least expensive but did not hold up very well. The United was the best bang for the buck.
As far as security goes just make sure you don't get the RV style latch on the side entry door they are very easy to open without a key.
Your right an all aluminum trailer is much more expensive than what you want to spend. They are all aluminum skin so the screws will be your rust nightmare.
Torsion axles, because they do not use leaf springs, keep the trailer lower to the groung and reduce sway and wind drag. This will also help loading a low riding car.
Towing any trailer with a SUV requires a good weight dist. hitch assy. and an anti sway control. This will make for a comfortable safe tow you enjoy instead of arriving at your destination with white knuckles.
Good luck!!

Here's the Haulmark I tow with. It's the slopped front for a little less drag. Only thing that would be better would be a lower profile aluminum trailer, but like you say they are $$$. This one works great, though, what with torsion-bar axles, 20-foot interior length and 24-ft OAL. As for open, I've had them and they are fine, but it's really nice to tow through rain, hale and dirt and arrive at your destination with a clean dry Cobra. Save your sheckles for an enclosed trailer . . . and consider a used one. EBay is a good place to start your search.

I am in the same boat as you, trying to find a nice enclosed trailer for my 289FIA. The problem I have is that my tow vehicle is a Volvo XC90 with a 5400LB tow capacity. Aluminum is my preference also but I still need to put 2 kids thru college.
Speed220 you mentioned your Haulmark is 24'LOA. Do you really need the extra length or could you of used a smaller trailer? Was hoping to get away with something less than 20' LOA. Any advise I would appreciate also.

Jamvan,
Your only real option for an enclosed trailer, coupled with your current tow vehicle is going to be a Trailex item:
http://www.trailex.com/buycat.cfm?cat_id=93
Be prepared to cough up at least $14,000 for the privilege of buying one that is enclosed.............Shoot me off a private message, and I'll clue you in to the 20 foot enclosed trailer I have here in Rockaway.....................You could go with something smaller in length, but you really don't want to.............

Jamvan: I could use a four-foot shorter trailer even though I have a Mustang to haul also. But when you stumble into a deal like I did, or $3,000 for a $7,000 Haulmark that's virtually new, I didn't quibble much about the overall length or height.
I'll post the picture I intended to in my first post when the "uploader" is fixed.

Alum. Trailer
Nantucket 427
Check out the Aluminum Trailer Co. www.aluminumtrailer.com They aren't cheap, but I think the best bang for the buck. If you send me a PM with your email address, I'll send you a zip file with pix of my custom 18 footer.
Trailex was my other choice, but for $4K less I'm a happy camper with the ATC. I towed it with a Dodge Durango twice, but moved up to a larger SUT a couple of months ago. At 80 mph and fully loaded with car etc., you don't know it's behind you. You might be hard pressed to get up to that speed on the island though.

Can you help me find the United Web Site ? or a dealer I can contact? Thanks for the Information and History Lesson. Just what I was looking for. I don't want to reinvent the wheel when we all have the same problems and can use someone elses experience to solve those problems, isn't it great. Thanks!

Terry Lee:
Would also love to see pictures of your ATC. You can email them to me at jamvan@att.net
Also do they use dealers or is everything done on line and then they are shipped to you.
