Talking You Can put a stereo in a Cobra!!!

I promised a few of you more information about the stereo system I had installed in my new SPF. It is a lot better than I expected. I went a little overboard on the power side with 1000watts, but I thought I'd need it for Highway cruising. I have more than enough sound at all speeds and RPM's. I have a load big block and the volume is there, but more importantly the quality is also there. I went with all Alpine stuff, head unit, speakers, and amps. This thing sounds fantastic, whether your listening to Frank Sinatra of P'Diddy, they all sound great. So if anyone is thinking about it, do it. Get good stuff with a lot of power and have a very good company do the install...I bought the car from Dynamic Motorsports and had them arrange the install with a company near them called Spade Kreations, great people who do an even better job, Call Doug if you need any advise. www.spadekreations.com I have a few pics if you want to see the install....

Default Mine's 600 watts...

And I can even hear the FM radio or cassette at speed, (16 CDs in the trunk, even clearer) unless there's heavy traffic. It's a nice touch for us music lovers

BIB,

What, no remote controlled pop out screen for watching DVD movies too. I think I have a picture of the dash of a guy that I know who has all of that stuff in his Cobra and I have forgotten how man speakers. Really sounds great though. Trunk is filled with amps, and other sound and movie gadgets.

Well waddaya know a high performance home entertainment center!

The problems with Cobras, especially big blocks, the pipes are so loud it is hard to hear any music unless you have headphones on.
Why worry about quality? You can't hear half the music unless you really crank it up.

You have to crank it up so loud that I can hear it in NJ! Really, you have to blast the volume up so, in my opinion, you go into the catagory of ricer/boomer. Instead of people looking at you and saying 'Wow, what a nice car' they say 'Wow what a jerkoff'!

And on top of all that you will go deaf quicker than a non stereo'd Cobra owner.

The ultimate internal debate....Stereo or not! I saw a guy here in Los Angeles who installed his in the transmission tunnel & had a lid over it that popped open for access to the face. This kept it hidden from plain view & looked almost like there was no stereo (The way to go in my opinion)

Don't take it personal, I was speaking in the objective. I was referring to person and persons unknown who put expensive and loud stereos in their Cobras because the've 'always had a stereo'. "I mean, like, what else would I do man while driving down the road?? WHERE'S MY MTV MAN?

If God mean for a Cobra to have a stereo, Shelby would have put one in.

My company does sound systems, however I have always thought of a Cobra as a "race car". I didn't put the glove compartment in for the same reason, I thought it would take away from the "race car" effect. I also try to get every extra pound out of the car and adding "heavy" stereo's, equalizers, woofers and amplifiers aren't in the picture. There is also my "drive like you stole it" reason for not doing a system, unless you drive like a grandma there will be issues with connections.

I have seen some "hidden" stereo systems in a Cobra that I didn't like because they mounted speakers behind the carpet. The carpet muffles the sound too much, I prefer the companies that take the time to use grill cloth over the speaker section.

I also prefer simply hiding the "head unit" under the dash and having a black cover over it for hiding purposes, that way the head unit is used like a regular car instead of going the remote control route.

I have a hidden sound systme/CD with hidden speakers and amp.

You would never know its in the car unless I told you, which I just did.

Can't imagine driving without 60's era rock and roll playing while cruise'n in the Cobra.

I agree Real. Listening to ZZTop when I pull up to the light just makes me laugh. esp if it sounds good. Yeah, Im the jerkoff.

I have the receiver under the dash and you would never know it was there even if you were in the passenger seat. I dont think the stereo bastardizes the replica at all.

God=Shelby...hey Roscoe, you OK?

Got a stereo, 12 disc changer in the trunk, 4 channels of 45 watts each. Sounds great with the engine off. Can hear the music with the engine on.

Then again, I've got a tiny little small block (351W) and not a real motor in my Cobra.

My car has stereo - a speaker on each side - right in front of the rear wheels

Mine is set up like a Viper, mains between you and the passenger and sats in the dash for stereo separation. Sounds fine except at WOT, which sounds better than any music anyway.
