Wool or nylon carpeting?
Please advise to what you suggest. I know that the wool is more expensive but what about cleaning it or what if it gets wet? What are the pros & cons of each?

Ed,
I have been caught in the rain a number of times. If the water is too deep to run out the small holes, I bail out the car and dry it as much as I can with towels. Then I put a couple of fans in the floor and let them blow the carpet for a couple of days until it feels dry. The original carpet lasted about ten years. The second one is starting to come apart on the passenger side after 7. No problem, I'll pull it out soon, lay it over a new piece and cut it to match. Then I use spray adheasive to stick it in place. To me, there is no point in buying expensive edge-bound wool carpeting. If your car is show-only, go for it. My car is built to drive, so I buy rolls of black nylon carpet at Pep Boys.
When you're hard on the throttle, the heads are pushed back so hard all you see is the sky. What difference does the carpet make?
Paul

Ed,
This is the best there is bar none. If you find anything better, I want to know about..
This stuff is in my cobra and I oput it in the GT40. It wears better than anything else I have found. Most Auto Trim Shops cary it but you gotta ask for Bentley

A great thing the Kirkhams do is make the carpet (wool) for the footbox floors in the shape of a well-fitted mat, and have four snaps (one in each corner) holding them down. If it gets wet or worn, they come right out for drying or replacing.

Thanks guys - BT I do not see Bentley on that site! Can you tell the difference in looks between the two? I just ordered an ERA so I do not know what the quality is between the two they supply. I do not want something that looks & feels like astro turf. This will not be a show car so I want something that will last as well as be able to get wet and dirty. Can any of you add some pics of what you have up close?

Ed,
If it's a weekend driver go with nylon/polypropylene, if its for show go with wool. Synthetics are much easier to care for. If it is removable all the better for either.

Sorry Ed,
I kinda forgot that part.....Just go back to that site and click PRODUCTS, Then scroll down and click the Dorsett Logo, then click products again..viola! You shouls see Bentley. Click on it.
This stuff is what most pro street rod builders use and it's strands per inch is the best in the industry. y Wool is good for show but for looks and durability, I'll go the Bentley route.
Hope this helps Ed.

I went with the nylon on me ERA too. Doesn't wool stink to high heaven when it gets wet?

Well, maybe this goes against the grain, but the wool carpet in the Butler looked damn good after 20+ years--no fading, the wear was nominal--and it didn't stink when it got wet. Hope the Kirkhams does as well.

I agree with all of you, save a few bucks and go with the nylon, but I have wool in mine (along with too much leather). It will definately hold up better in the long run, but nothing beats the feel of wool!!!!!!!!

I am going to try and find some decent looking marine carpet that doesnt matter if it gets wet. With no roof i think i will be getting wet occasionally.
