In-car lap timers are sold by many gear head outfits (Longacre, Jegs, etc) and will set you back roughly $230-$250). They come with a sensor that is placed at any location around the track and as your car passes they count the lap and time/speed it, much like the transponder. Any that I have seen are made to be firmly attached to the dash in some fashion and the one I used is fixed with sheet metal screws. Inasmuch as my dash is sheet metal that doesn't bother me a bit, but you might blanche at screwing such a device into your Cobra. Not sure if they could be made to work merely zip tied on.
