Fuel tank Baffles
I am racking my brains over design of this fuel tank, I have to fit a custom tank to my Cobra, as a fuel cell just aint the right shape!
The tank I have designed has side baffles and a fore/aft baffle, and in the pickup area which is approx 12" x 8" and has a 2.5" deep sump which is 6"x6" at front middle of tank. The criteria is not to use gates that swing inwards in the pickup area which is the size of a car battery, but to use jet boat technology and cut angles out of the corners top and bottom of the sidebaffles and leave the fore/aft baffle alone, the theory is the cutouts should equal the fuel filler pipe area. What I dont want to do, if you can follow this without a diagram is to have cutouts in the rear of the side baffles as under acceleration and hard cornering the fuel is just going to shoot out.
So I thought for allowing fuel into pickup area just have cutouts right at the front of the pickup box, this of course allows fuel to go out under braking.
The next idea is to make about three cylinders, to go over the sump, top to bottom of tank.
First one about 4", one about 5.5" and so on, the outside one has an entry slot in the front bottom, the middle at the rear, and the inner one has slot at front so as to not allow fuel to go sideways or rearward under hard cornering, and the second one restricts fuel under braking etc etc
HAS ANYONE GOT ANY PICTS OF SUMP BAFFLES THAT ARE SIMPLE AND WORK, i AM SURE MY SUMP WILL HELP DUE TO THE SHALLOW TYPE OF TANK I AM BUILDING.
