Thank you for your reply. Your BDR sounds like a fine machine. Are you happy with your 302 vs going for a larger one or even a 351, I've been told that a good 302 is about all that is needed and it looks like you pumped yours up.
Also noted in your posts that you didn't or wasn't entirely happy with yours when you received it. Hope all those problems are not on all BDR.
I have compared about 4 cars on the internet (their websites). The only 2 that doen't have brochures is BDR and Venom427.
I did compare them and it seems about right for the $3000. differance in price. Have gotten great response from owners of both cars. It seems both companies are selling all they are manufacturing and don't care where they get into Ca. or not.
Must be a barrier, after you leave Texas.. lol
They both seem to have a problem in communicating across the Az. state line. I did receive a nice post from th BDR dealer in Texas and he is getting some material together for me. He was very gracious and may be coming to Ca. in the near future. The Reg. you mentioned was e-mailed a week or so but still no reply.
Don't have his telephone number as it is not on the site, so I did as was requested, sent him an e-mail.
The other manufactures bad mouth both companies, say they are using old and used parts but that is one manufacture talking about the other, so what can you expect.
Its just that I'm out here in ca. and no one to compain to if I don't get what was promised. However you seemed to have gotten your problems worked out with BDR.
Again, Thanks for the info. and I would love to see your car when you post the pictures.

John,
With all the fuss, I forgot to give you Reg's #. If you haven't gotten it already here it is.

Streetbeagle : Damn, these Backdraft people are relentless. They must be very concerned about loosing one deal to a Venom. Before you buy do yourself a favour and give Team C Racing a call and get them to tell you what you are paying $3 000 extra for. You would be surprised. I guarantee you our fit and finish will be superior, in addition to the add-ons and improvements to chassis and other components.
You don't see the Venom being pushed on the Backdaft threads, do you. Makes you think !!!

Since this thread is named "information on the Venom 427" why don't you list the $3,000 in goodies/improvements that are on your car? I'm sure we'd all like to know and it would be good advertising for the Venom.

STANDARDS
Hello Everyone:
My name is Brian and am a rep at Team-C-Racing in New Britain, CT. I see that things get out of hand at times and feel that it is time to jump in and straighten things out. If I can....
streetbeagle: How are you doing, I believe I have talked to you on the phone and would love having you be a representative for the VENOM 427 as you seem to have a good reputation building Street Rods in your area. I sent an information pack, let me know if you have any other questions other than ones that I will answer now.
1. Backdraft cars still need items to complete and other items that are STANDARD on the VENOM. A. Driveshaft is included for use with T5 or Tremec STANDARD. B. Battery is included and wired STANDARD. C. Tonneau cover is FITTED and STANDARD. D. Wind Wings and Tinted Sunvisors STANDARD. E. STAINLESS STEEL Quick jacks STANDARD. F. DOT Windshield with original style Chrome over Brass frame STANDARD. G. FULL STAINLESS exhaust (Side Pipes AND Headers) STANDARD (NO NEED TO JET COAT). H. Stainless steel HEAT SHIELDS are STANDARD, removable with no signs of prior installation.
2. The VENOM has a suggested retail price of $28,900. Not sure about you, but I have yet to pay Sticker price on any car I bought. You do get what you pay for. If price is the only issue.....feel free to call me and we can work something out. You will be ahead of the game......
3. The VENOM is MANUFACTURED and BUILT by Performance Cars. The Backdraft cars I've seen....have not had the fit and finish that you will get with a VENOM. You can really see on a particular auction site.....what I am talking about. Look at supersize of trunk photos, fit, stripe lines, door gaps. Now this may only be one example, but I just want to stress the detail that goes into a VENOM. Also, look at the shape and style of front fenders etc., do you like an original look, or a modified Cobra body. It's been said to me that the Front Fenders resemble that of a VW BUG, some peoples opinions, liked by some, hated by others......decision will be left up to the particular buyer.
I hope that this will clear up some things for people. Some times things are more important to people than price, and sometimes the price is all that matters. You do get what you pay for.
Any further questions/comments don't hesitate.....
Brian

I've taken delivery on a silver venom last month. My overall experience with Brian at team-c has been very positive. There are problems with the car - its not perfect. I've shared my thoughts with Brian and he took my comments in the positive vein with which they were offered. Namely the car (from the manufacturer) needs more specs supplied. That is not team-c's responsibility per se, but Brain has borne the brunt of my ire when I've run into obstactles.
I have zero experience building a car which is why I have a very experienced mechanic do all the work. But even he has been scratching his head on a couple of issues. Ross Sinclair has also been very helpful.
With more complete "Construction Notes" the build would go a lot smoother. Since most people use a combination of 302, 351, 427, T45, c6, that doesnt leave too many permutations. General notes collated from the collective experiences from these builds would provide a point of departure. I would also have headers and tranny mounts that match those combinations. A more precise wiring diagram would also help.
Team-c/performcars might consider hosting a builder forum so guys like myself can swap notes....
Would I buy another venom? Yes, but not in kit form. Perhaps I was too optimistic, but I had underestimated the time it would take to install an engine and transmission.
Judging by the research I've done and the experiences of people on this website, I say that if you have the experience to build a car, the venom is a pretty good technical/price combo.
Cheers,
Jong

TCR_BRIAN, Thanks for the input on some specifics. It seems leej and I are the only 2 completely honest people on this site or are much more particular than everyone else. I say this b/c he and I are the only ones who have had anything to complain about on either the BDR or the Venom. Remind you I believe the things I mentioned about my BDR were very minor and it doesn't sound like leej is having any major problems either.
Boudy, I saw the pics of Rogers car on the BDR website. Looks great so far! Why don't they take those rookie stripes all the way to the hood? I think it looks great the way it is, I've just never seen it done like that.

Here we Go
Hey Jong + Everyone....
Not every car is perfect and not every person is perfect. I was just stating what I know and what can be overlooked if not stated. Jong and his mechanic (Marvin) are both excellent people and have been a pleasure to deal with. They have brought to our attention alot of points that either are known, and being fixed or are perfect examples of things that could be repeated in the future. In some defense Jong's car is a new venture as he has elected to go with a 351 W and a C6 automatic transmission, which we all know is king in strength and size. This is a new thing and we are trying to work through it because this won't be the first time that a person will want to approach this. The second issue is the fact that he doesn't want to cut the body to accomodate the headers, some fabrication is taking place. After talking with Marvin, Jong you are in good hands.....There is nothing better than meeting good people, and learning from them. WOW 2 people being honest? ON the WHOLE site? I think this is a little unfair.....
Regards,
Brian

Sorry, I didn't really mean the 2 of us were the only ones honest on this site. I meant that we may be the only ones who don't mind saying we spent tens of thousands of dollars and were not 100% happy with the product when received. Everyone likes to boast about what a great deal they got and how everything was perfect. It's not too fair to others wanting information on a product if you don't state the things you weren't happy with. Even if they are minor.
Again thanks for explaining the retail price difference between these two similiar cars. Most of what you have stated the Venom comes with "STANDARD", I believe was "STANDARD" when I purchased my BDR. That may have changed now, but even if it has, I didn't see $3k. And as far as retail price I'm sure the BDR price is not set in stone either. As for the fit and finish, I did see a Venom on a particular auction site not too long ago and the darn stripes were crooked going down the rear of the car. I guess the the door gaps were good though.

Brian - Nuke 427
The unintended consequence of our email exchange, could be that there is an enterprising group out there that is going to create a cottage industry within a cottage industry to support guys like me.
Being in the defense industry, if the Venom dropped bombs or fired missiles I too would be tempted to join the fray.
Cheers,
Jong

ok
Well based on what is included with their car, on their website and what is options is where I came up with the quick list, there may be more or less. I did miss the fact that the car does come with wind wings and sunvisors standard on both, my mistake. The car with the crooked stripes, how long ago was this? All VENOM cars come through here. Unless it is one of the current two we have listed, (One doesn't have stripes, other check pic below)it has been sold and to a customer and we haven't heard anything.....are you sure it was a VENOM?? maybe the customer could tell us and get it corrected if it is an issue with them, no problemo....Price again.....MCD's + BK aren't on price this much.....then again they don't charge for basic toppings either......
Jong isn't that always the case though.....and then we will all be jealous.....hmmmmm missiles, bombs.....I think you may be on to something, think DOD needs any new vehicles, maybe a .50 cal on the rollbar......maybe we could ad that as an option......
Regards,
Brian

TCR-Brian, Just trying to stir you up a little. The car I saw with crooked stripes was a Venom. It was a darker blue with white stripes, but the stripes were crooked from the trunk to the lower rear which is easily fixable with an adjustment on the trunk hinge bolts. I know you have a great product, I'm not trying to deny you that. Both these cars from South Africa, Venom and BDR deserve a look from anyone not wanting to go the full kit route. My buddy Rogers owned 2 classic roadsters and when I received my BDR, even with the complaints I had, sold both his Classics and ordered a BDR. He built both of his and realized what a value a completed/roller car is. Brian, if your cars are what BDR sells, I would buy one. If they are better, then they may be worth the extra money. I'll end with, I know BDR is a great value, and Venom is definitely worth looking into. Hey Reg, where is my VIN plate?

AGREEMENT
Don't recall any blue/white stripe VENOMS listed for auction, but I haven't personally listed any cars. Maybe wasn't latched/shut all the way, don't know but I now understand the location you were originally talking about......Your following statements after that......
I am in full agreement......This year at Carlisle you got to see just about all the different kit/TK-/TK cobra's out there. I love alot of things I saw, and they were mostly the cars coming from South Africa. I was not trying to knock or demote any products, you're right people need to know and have the right to know what others think. The quality, for the price, you can't go wrong.....They drive, handle, and brake unbelievablely. The customer is king (or queen) and will take the car they like and feel comfortable with. I admit, it's tough to get straight answers all the time based on opinions, but this is what drives these forums.....and can sometimes lead a person in the right direction, but sometimes wrong. I hope we have shown a positive example to potential buyers for either.......some how......Everything is taken in stride......Nuke I tip my hat to you (even though I don't wear one), I saw your pics, nice motor.....gotta love anything with a SBF, especially one that has a TFS stage 3 cam.....not to shabby, tach must stay in the high end alot......

Brian

TCR_BRIAN, the car I saw was used, from a private individual. And like stated earlier, an easy adjustment of the trunk hinges would have solved it. I hope both companies well in the future of Cobra sales. Reg at BDR is very willing to please, as well as Boudy and the other distributers of BDR. As I'm sure you and the Venom gang is. I feel I got a "bang for the buck" Cobra. And as similar as these Cobras are I'm sure you can't go wrong with either. Superformance? Who is that?
Almost forgot, yes stage 3 cam, probably a bit too big for my setup. Set the idle at 1100. Not much zip until 3k. Sounds like a damn dragster though!
