fuel pressure??

My motor seems to run good when I have my foot on it, but when I am crusing on the freeway it seems to run VERY rich (too much fuel, popping, loading up).
According to my fuel pressure guage I am getting 7-8 lbs of pressure at idle is this normal?
I have a mechinacle Holly fuel pump is there any way to regulate the pressure?

i have found that my Holley can sometimes flood, so i went to brass floats, they have a longer "arm" than the Nitrophil ones, so they exert a tad more leaverage to turn off the needlejet.

You might also recheck your float level, you would think something like that would be a set and forget, but for some reason, every now and then, mine is off a bit. But the brass floats do let me run my 7.4 psi fuel pressure without any problems.

I doesn't sound like fuel pressure is the problem. Sounds like volume going into the carb.
Pressure is not an indication of volume.

Pressure can be understood by taking a strw and blowing into it. The smaller the straw the harder it will be to blow through. Volume is the amount of actual flow through that straw.
What could be happening is that the flow to your carb is too great or the carb isn't atomizing the fuel quick enough. Check everything. Timing, jetting, plugs too cold, etc. Make one change at a time to see if the problem persists.

An old drag race trick is to take a short piece of rubber fuel line and connect the top carb vent from the primaries to the secondaries [like the top 1/3 of a circle] now cut a 1/2" hole in the top of the hose as the vent.This will eliminate fuel sloshing out of vents or at least eliminate that possibility. Next would be to run an inline fuel regulator, set it at 5 PSI for street.
