Default Protective coating for signed dash?

Protective coating for signed dash?

I'm not so sure I'm proud to ask this, but here it goes...
Have any of you come up with a protective coating to spray over Mr. Sh****'s signature on your dash to protect it from running or smearing from Amor all or cleaners...? i.e. something like semi-gloss clear plastic, or some other spray material.

I hear a few of you have come up with something that works good and does not look too glossy or get yellowed over time. Actually, if I can't find anything that works good, I may just end up removing it. He was cursing and complaining when he signed it, smeared it, and got his finger prints on it... Makes me want to preserve it sometimes, and other days I see that can of laquer thinner just sitting there waiting to be used. If he makes one more negative comment in front us cobra replica fans, or about lost money, that signature will be gone. Any ideas on how to preserve it, if I don't get rid of it first?

How about that clear stuff that some people use on the front of the rear fenders to stop stone chips?

It's a rather large piece, you could cut it to fit the dash and just use the part you need. Hmmm,,,,I bet it's an expensive application as you probably have to buy it in "pairs".

I've seen it on a couple of Cobras and it's virtually invisible and very protective.

Smile INVINCA-SHIELD

http://invinca-shield.com/ HERE IS THE LINK TO THEIR SITE. I BOUGHT THE ROCK GUARDS FOR MY REAR FENDERS. EASY ENOUGHT TO INSTALL. THEY GIVE YOU TWO SMALL SAMPLE PIECES TO PRACTICE WITH. I USED ONE UNDER MY KEY TO KEEP FROM SCATCHING THE DASH. WORKS GREAT.

Duane,
You let Carroll put his finger prints all over your dash?
It will help authenticate the signature at a later date.
DNA may be helpful too. I may have some around here, and let me give you some.

I had him sign the glove box door on mine. It makes it easier to replace, or to clean around.

My guess any of the vinyl cleaners without petroleum base, should do fine when it comes to cleaning the dash. He usually signs with permanent Silver Ink.
You could run a test yourself and see what attacks it, what doesn't.

What was he cursing about while he was signing it? Because it was a replica? And he signed it anyway?

I don't think any of the standard clear coats are going to last over vinyl. You might try artist's "fixit" spray which they use to put a protective satin coat over pencil drawings to prevent them from smearing. Not sure if it has any uv protection, but it should give some protection without being obvious its there. You will have to experiment first on a spare piece of vinyl to see if "fixit" spray is impervious to Armor-All.
