Slightly OT: Ebay and Bid tampering
So this morning I get two different emails from some of the current bidders on my Cobra auction telling me that they got solicited (called bid siphoning) by another ebay user to sell his at "a better deal" than what I have my car currently at. Whats worse, I know this person, and had considered him a friend. What would you do in this situation??? Need some unbiased advice on this one............
Sincerely,
Bill S.

Hmmmm Friend?
Bill..If he is, as you say, considered to be a friend, then give him a call.
It may not be as it appears.
But...If it is as you suspect, then you may have lost a friend.
You all take care

IF true, then he is no longer a friend, but a thief ! treat him as such...find out the truth first by confronting him firsthand.
there are 3 sides to every story ; yours, mine and the facts.
guess ya need to know the facts...then decide if still a friend or an EX friend. good luck. not fun to have to do that, but til ya know you will be forever wondering. ya need to close the loop. bill.

If you want the facts, set up a sting. Get a buddy to bid on your car and see if he is contacted by your friend. Or, you could just call the friend.

Guys,
I know it is fact, as I had two of the higher bidders (so far) email me with this guys email attached (one forwarded it so I have header information intact). it is indeed the person I once considered a friend. Granted he is young and might not have known better, but if he was smart enough to build the Cobra, he is smart enough to know what he did was wrong. Anybody else want to comment.........

Mr Mustang...i think you got your answer....
you got the facts...
and your emotion is tearing you up, it shows. now the difficult part. WHAT TO DO ?
now you have to decide : friend, ex friend or coach/counsel his youth and give it another shot..then decide if still a friend or a has been at that time.
good luck. bill.

Bill W.
I sent him off an email, telling him how it hurt me that he would do such a thing, but doubt he will respond. Yes, it is tearing me up inside that anyone would sink that low. Not sure what I'll be doing, which is why I posted here asking for some advice beforehand............
Bill S.
PS: And yes, I've already reported him to Ebay

too many times there is no love lost when it comes to greed and money...let your conscience be your guide and be at peace with yourself, dont look back but look forward . life goes on. you will be a better person when you can accept your decision. maybe he will be too, although doubtful he will admit it to you. peace. bill.

So Bill, can you give me the specs on his car please - I might be interested........
Seriously, you are in the right - he has been caught out for the untrustworthy guy that he is. You can be happy that the higher bidders are serious enough about your car to point out this attempt at stealing your sale away from you. What the kid does from here is out of your hands. Good luck with your sale!

e-bay can be a great place to trade at times, but also a fickle one as well, take Bomelia thinking he was getting a 428 but getting something else, you getting this treatment with your car. I just received an email tonight for a 1/18th scale cobra model i bid on in the states. It started at .01c and i bid .01c on it and after the 7 day auction no one else had bid on it. Just minutes before the end of the auction, the seller cancelled the auction coz he didnt get bid enough i suppose. Kinda sucks coz it would have been the best deal i got for a while!

I am surprised you have not shared with all of us the name of this individual so we can all keep clear of him in the future. Wish you the best in selling car. I'm just sorry to see a local guy selling his car.

Bill,
The only way to deal with it, and I assume you are correct in your accusations, is to expose the jerkoff for what he is. Print his name and all the details so everyone knows him. It is the only true punishment that will have a lasting effect on this type of behavior.

Jim,
All you need to do is look on my auction page. I've added a little ditty at the bottom of my description that pretty much spells it out..................Also placed some hints on cobranet....

No problem, Bill.
We consider locking almost all of your threads, so this one is no different.
( )
Seriously.. this is a sorry incident. Fear not, your car will sell on it's own merits, regardless.
I would suggest that the confrontation that is coming (..and, boy, is it coming) be held off line and in private.
Thanks

Hey Ron,
The confrontation has already been held offline...The little boy has yet to post a public apology, why, because he truly sees it as he did nothing wrong by trying to steal bidders away from my auction. This thread was started for a way for me to blow off steam, and a way for me to get the word out about this particular person (I will not name names here, they are elsewhere already)..............Ebay has been notified, it is up to them to take care of this ignorant, shameless, sleazy person.
Bill S.
PS: As for locking my threads, why would you ever consider doing that .....(insert five year old jumping up and down here) Hey, can I be a moderator too.....Come on, can I
