Red-
Did $4200 include the price for the block, crank rods etc., or did you already have those parts and just pay for the machine work? If that is a price for all parts and machine work, you got the deal of the century, and in that case, let me know where you got it form because I'll order one too- seriously.

As to your other statement about ERA costing $10-15 more than a CSX roller to complete, I can tell you from recent experience that you are way off the mark. I got a complete roller from ERA (the only options I did not get were the larger front brakes and ERA rear) and had the car painted by one of the painters that ERA works with and the total price, including paint, was probably not more than $2500 above the advertised price for the CSX roller. And for that difference I would buy the ERA every time.

Someone asked why a SPF or an ERA, well I can tell you that ERA quality and service are second to none. ERA is truly one of the best comanies I have ever dealt with and that would make me buy an ERA over a CAV CSX every time, even if the ERA is nominally more expensive (which I'm not convinced that it ultimately is.)

My .02

Chaplin,

That the cost of the short block/crank etc (everything). Good deals are out there, this one came to me. He heard I had sold my GT500 and had ordered a CSX. Doug helped me with the 428 in my 67 GT-500.

What do you have in your ERA?

What I looked at as far as pricing on the ERA was the roller which I thought was close to 45K and then I factored 5000.00 for painting, then motor and running gear.

RedCSX-

I have done an ERA, I have done a number of 427's, I am doing a Kirkham with a Shelby block.

Unless you are getting a number of parts for free you can't build a 550HP at the flywheel 427 for $7000.

You don't have a lot of things listed - off the top of my head what about valves and springs, air cleaner, gaskets, valve covers, oil cooler and lines, etc.

Your statement that you can makes most of your other statements seem suspect.

What do you mean the Baer brakes are better sorted than the Wilwoods?

Also, please don't tell this group of people what things cost and what is better - most of these guys have already been there.

Other than that, welcome.

Pat, Thanks for making me feel welcome.

Sound like you are building the ultimate Cobra combination. Are you a member of NORCAL SHELBY CLUB?

Read my break down more closely. Most of what you mentioned I covered in my note (valves, crane springs, valve covers)

air cleaner(free)fuel line (free) alternator(had it already)

I have not purchased the oil cooler lines but I don't consider that part of the long block.

As I stated several times my opinions, take them are leave them. This is just how I made my decisions which let me to choose the CSX.

Hi Snake'd,

I think that anything made by Shelby will at least hold it's purchase price value and in some cases will undoubtably go up in value such as the aluminum cars. The Anniversary cars have already gone up in value.

Red,

I think many have already implied this, but if you looked at ERA's site, you would see that you could purchase a similar roller from ERA for less than $39995. My comparison included a few options making the cars have the same components except the ERA estimate included a soft top and side curtains (I never got a good answer from any of the Shelby dealers on soft tops for Shelbys). I tell you this because you say you are new and not because I'm trying to convince you that you made a bad purchase. Come to think of it....

Notice:
All, if you have ordered an ERA more than a month ago, Shelby is offering 427's for $39995 and you can cancel your order . Now, if I can get a enough takers, how soon do you think ERA will take to get that roller to me.

Enjoy the CSX

Dreaming about moving up in the queue (shh, I can dream can't I)

I'm coming in about "mid stream" to you high dollar guys with my Classic Roadster (DV built, so you KNOW it's right). I LIKE a little more room, but don't want to go TO much more.

Target this time is a daily driver. Hard top, A/C, soft top too. Leather of course. Mild 302 with 5 speed for easy maintainence, gas mileage. For the same money I COULD consider an SAI CAV roller. But I'd still need a motor, a hardtop and A/C. And would I WANT to put A/C in an SAI car? Not sure about that. I do have SOME standards you know, LOL.

Yup, I got the right car for me, it's gonna be great and the price is nice!

Ernie

RED's cost comparison SAI CAV vs ERA actually sounds pretty accurate to me, all things considered. And the wait for an SAI car APPEARS to be far less (but time will tell if THATS true or not)!

Red,I probably won't take delivery until '05.ERA will guarantee price estimate as long as I take delivery within 2 years,(and the deposit is even refundable up until construction begins!).My wife is starting a new career, and my daughter will be out of college in 2 years,so the timing is right.Like a fine wine,I am looking forward to savoring the sweet bouquet of anticipation for the next year or so.Penn valley is in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, just about 5 miles west of Grass Valley, off HWY20.I have lived here since 1979,and can't see myself ever leaving.Quite a few Cobras prowling these parts too.....Gary

Here's a shot of the SAI CAV roller from Coronado on Oct. 12.

It is one of the prototypes. Glass work was ok but a few waves. Frame/suspension look good.
But I got to tell you, they weren't getting anywhere near as many looks as the CAV GT40 and the SPF Coupe. That new coupe is one sweet looking roller.

I remember reading that back in 63 they had one COBRA. They changed the paint job every time it was given to a different magazine for testing. Just a thought.............

Default You don't suppose..........

Wasn't that '62? Red, blue, yellow and white?

,,,,and yeah, I was kinda chuckling thinking about what they did "back in the day" and was half expecting the new CAV car to show up at the next event ,,,,,,,as a "red" one.

Well... not to chip the bondo off of any past events in the Shelby lore.. no one is, or at least *I* am not, suggesting that these are different cars, or are the same cars being passed off as different. Just pictures.

Lurk, I checked out that link. Damn that car must be fast, it looks like it has 2 speedos. I guess it could be an hour meter on that reverse rotation tach.
