Yes, Kevin, the photo was taken at last year's Nor Cal SAAC Mini-Nats at Sear's Point - these Cobras were running in the blue group (fastest) in OT. The straight from T6 to T7 is a designated passing zone for this OT.

I hope that they (Shelby Challenge Cobras) are at Mini-Nats this year in a few weeks!

Regards,
Randy R...

Scotty is one he_l of a driver and his car has been set up very well by Craig Hill, as I recall. Scotty and his car are a match for virtually any Cobra, and he was spanking most everything out there that day. Scares the cr_p out of me when I'm watching him start his turn-in into Turn 1 at Thunderhill. Man he flys. Also the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. Just wish he'd put more steel around himself....

The shelby spec racers are well set up cobra's with generally pretty good drivers. They have spent lots of time getting the chassis set up in line. I would bet that they are faster than 99% of the open track cobra's out there. John Morton has run 1.25's at willow, and toms motorsports ran 1.29's at willow, both in spec racers. I don't know of any other cobra under like 1.32's at that track. There might be faster cobra's but not many. Scott

On that day at that track the spec racers that showed up were getting passed by Scotty in his SPF. Don't know who was driving them. Randy, was Morton in one of them, do you remember? Don't get me wrong, the spec racers are formidable, to be sure. This is just what Randy and I saw on one day under the conditions of the day, etc. It's been less than a week since I watched Old Red being towed down our street to its new owner hundreds of miles away, and I'm already having fantasies about selling the Z06 so I can almost, barely, sort of afford an RF40 or HDR Daytona coupe, or.... Truly, this is an insidious disease.

Tom, I don't remember who the drivers were - even if I met them once, I'm getting old and my memory is ah, ah, fading BTW, Tom, have you seen the photos of the SPF Coupe? I wonder if they'll have one at Mini-Nats? Hubba-hubba... Me like!

Ernie, Scotty's SPF has a built up 460 producing (as I recall) about 650 to 670 HP as the crank. Scotty's probably the fastest driver in group, however there's a TransAM Mustang that's a bit faster (Luc) - clearly Scotty's the fastest Cobra.

Have Fun,
Randy R...

Luc's stang is a monster. Gets to plug himself in all over the place and get assimilated by the borg-stang. Randy, I'm not sure about the coupe--doubtlessly it will be the "the next new thing" when it really becomes available, and with Brock and others it will be a great car, perhaps too civilized, I don't know. That's kind of how the Z06 is...great car, great value, but it doesn't grab me in the guts like the older stuff does. Sure can't wait to see one, anyway. The HDR coupe interests me some because of the apparent value for the dollar and robust construction, although I'd still rather see irs on it. I'm such a chucklehead driver I probably wouldn't know the difference anyway, and he does say he can build in some camber (2 degrees?) which would help with turn-in/handling. Who knows? I'm obviously in some sort of auto identity crisis thing to add to the mid-life crisis thing....

Only the first car was set up to carry passengers I believe csx4116. Motors were built by Kroyer 351 CID dynoed at 500 horsepower. First time I saw them run was at S.A.A.C. event at Sears Point or whatever you call it. They are very fast. Cobra registry has info. pages 780 to 783.l
