Default 302 Gt40

What is the word, good, bad, etc. with the 302 GT40 320 hp and 345 hp Street Strip Aluminum Long Block Crate Motors? It is either one of those or a 351 and what is the word on the 351's? Looking forward to your feedback?

Thumbs up

Bought the XB3 (B303 cam) from Ford, $2900 delivered to the door. Demon 650 on an Edelbrock Performer RPM, MSD ign., and love it. Fires off before it goes 1/2 revolution, happy on 91 octane, sounds better than any 302 has a right to, and will get you wide-eyed thru the first 3 gears. Oil pressure steady 40 psi when hot, never been over 190 degrees even in traffic.

Still have some tuning to do; total timing still at 30 degrees and Ford recommends 36. Still - very happy with how this has turned out. Rev limiter set at 6200 per Ford, will pull to limiter in every gear - but havent tried it in 5th yet.

No doubt the 351 is a better showoff....from a 1st gear roll there is no wheelspin, just squats and hauls a$$. Very impressive for a 9:1 motor. Change the oil and turn the key - this is great.
