You're right.. it's a custom muscle car...someone's interpretation...some will like it, some won't. I don't.
It's "gilding the lily"...the '67 GT-500 had class.

I guess they have set precedent with the AK cars (listings of cars neither made nor sold by SAI); the GT-40's are historical enough to qualify, as well.
I just cannot see this caricature warranting it's own section.

Fortunately it will be a few years before the next hardcopy will be printed. (I hear separate books for Cobra, GT350/500, etc.) Maybe they will put these in a separate flyer?
Maybe they won't sell enough and the whole concept will be a postscript in the 2005 Edition.

I need a clarification.
As long as we're on the subject of CS's newfound passion for the 'continuation' industry, can someone answer me this: Is not a Kirkham Cobra considerably less expensive than a Kirkham bodied Shelby whatever? What's the diff other than the CSX plaque?
Also, are the current 'competitively priced' glass Shelby's not manufactured by CAV in South Africa? The same locale as that icky Superformance?
I also noticed that the daily driver at his birthday party at the Peterson was a CAV GT-40.
Goodness - there seems to be a lot of incestuous activity going on with the 'enemy'.

Wow .. you never cease tossing around YOUR attitude enriched opinion as being the only one that matters

Then maybe it is me, English is not my native tongue and I frequently employ the dictionary. Sometimes the dictionary does confuse me.You WOULDN'T think it SHOULD. But it does.

Learn English .. and it's complex differences and dialects. Stop trying to overthink someone's meanings on an OT forum reply. It was a reply... and my opinion. It wasn't a Presidential Address. Or, would, could, should you like to define the word "IS" for us now?

Let' let this one go into the memory lane.

You are digging yourself deeper as you explain yourself further. Recommendation would be to say no more and let others guess how much more hatred someone is capable of, rather than remove any doubt.

How bout you start off each of these with "In my opinon .. and that of my cheerleading squad" ??

{b]Some of us think his reputation is very much intact. So no need for you to wish him a certain death before he "eff'ed it any more.[/b]

And some people believe in the tooth fairy and world peace is obtainable, but how bout coming back to reality now, um k?

I think CS can list a whole bunch of accomplishments that would enhance his reputation. I don't think he worries too much if you and I approve of them. He is not done yet!
What will be on your epitaph?

And one "aw chit" can expell those admirations. My epitaph? I suppose, He didn't cave to BS rhetoric or honor false heros. Knew the definition of a SNOB - and didn't allow them to sway his opinions. How bout that? What? Did you expect me to seriously answer that crap?

He also showed a lot of class, after loosing his lawsuit he went out and offered a CSX car to the masses for under $40K.

Class? HA! Smart business move is more like. "Can't beat them? Join them". ... DUH.

"If Smith Bros. were to conduct themselves...."
Who do you want to decide if Smith's were conducting themselves properly. ME?

It's your opinion Turk. Free will and all the good stuff. How bout giving it so I can start ripping your a new one for having one that doesn't conform to mine? See the point yet?

Who the hell am I to call them a POS because I didn't agree with the way they conduct themselves.

Same applies to you too. You are way too short of talent and authority to decide if Shelby is short of YOUR expectations. He seems to satisfy others just fine.

It is not that you disagree with what he is doing that bothers me. It is the fact that, because you disagree he should be the target of insults.

I don't believe you have that right no more than I do if I didn't approve of Smith Bros'way of doing business.

Right? I have no right? Obviously you're not from this Country. I have every right. Born here. Served my Country. Fought for my Country. Still serving my fellow man with my chosen career. I have every right to state my opinion within the limits of the Constitution. Who the hell are you to tell me I can't?

Three years in a row I have been an active participant in raising money for one of Smith Bros. daughters, Jenny.

I don't see the relevence to this discussion ...

If I thought they were a POS I would wit hold support, and not just go out and call someone a POS.

It is easy to resort to verbal assaults when the recipient is an 80 year old man.
I bet you wouldn't say that to his face, if he was standing there and was in his 30's and built like he could take your head off.

uh huh .. whatever you say there big guy. My Dad can beat up your Dad.

If you pay attention, for a change I am not typing this as a moderator. It is just me , TURK. So, no moderator clout on this one.

This is just me. Take it or leave it.

Wrong. ABSOLUTELY WRONG. You can't turn on - turn off the fact that you are a moderator here .. and the fact that your very first reply was swinging the moderator flag. Or the fact that your replies/opinions can be regarded as that of this Forum Administration.

If your wishes had come through, and indeed Shelby died at an earlier age, you and I would probably not be here because Cobra as we know it, may have remained a vision that died with him as well.

Maybe you wish, he died as a teen. Either way, now or later when he is dead and gone, he will leave behind a family and a long line of fans who will be glad to be mourning his passing, while you drink another pitcher of beer celebrating his death.

Whu? Maybe .. shoulda-coulda-woulda? How bout if he had died by the mid-1970s. Ya know, prior to accident where his head went up his 4th point of contact? What then? Who cares? He's a leech, trying to suck the fun out of being an enthusiast.

Your bat is NOT that big use it very carefully you will strike out.
You are right about one thing it is NOT raining.

Is that you Turk? - the MODERATOR talking or a Replica on him? Yup - it's not rain .. and you're full of it.

You didn't "come here to fight", why are you here then? Actually had you have come in here to fight, you wouldn't have lasted here that long.
As it is , you just got here and look what you have done.
Shame on you.

Turn that thought process around. Why are you here? Why did you start in on me? You could have disagreed with my opinion .. without insulting me. See the hypocrisy yet?

If I found out that you are in your teens, shame on me for wasting my time with you so far.

If you are anything past 19, an adult and feel the way you do, SHAME ON YOU!!

TURK

Shame on you anyway.

Durt,
I can probably take the first part of your question, and maybe others can answer the rest.

It is safe to assume, Shelby CSX cars built with a Kirkham chassis and body do cost somewhat more."cost" is the wrong word. What I meant was they are "SOLD" for more.

How much more depends on who you ask.

If you take the Ebay prices for Kirkham( worst case scenerio) and the full retail prices of Shelby(again worst case scenerio), the differences could be in the thousands.

Then again if you get a good deal on one and not so good a deal on the other, the pricing gap could be considerably narrower.

To be honest about it, Shelby has been charging a premium basically for the same car for sometime.
How much that premium is, depends on which two purchasers you are talking to.

You will pay a premium for the Shelby name and the CSX number and a spot in the Registry.

That premium is nowhere near the amounts I have read about in these pages during the last three years. Most are overblown.

To some the name, the number and the Registry is not worth a dime. I for one can not blame them if I was after a nice car that was no better than a Kirkham.

A fair comparison can be made NOT by what I paid for mine and what Toy Collector paid for his. Each deal is different. there are trades involved, discounts to be gotten etc.

Call the Kirkhams and get their price and then call Bob Marsh and get his price. The difference is what it is.

I can't imagine one can go wrong with either choice.

I kind of figured that folks were betting on the desirability of the CSX nomenclature. Personally, I don't see it - I think the last Cobra was produced decades ago. I think adding new cars to the registry just dilutes it. Hey, maybe if CS signed my Audi we could include that.
I've been quite happy with my SPF (spent the last half hour just ... looking at it after detailing,) but I do entertain notions of a Kirkham in my future. Them Mormon boys make a pretty car.

I guess all those who disagree with you have a moderator complex.

In this case "my cheer leading squad" seem to be EVERYONE on this thread. Do you feel a little lonely in your argument?

It goes without saying these are your and my opinions. No need to preface everything with IMHO. Everyone knows that. In the absence of such a disclaimer what do you think they become?

It is those "opinions" almost everyone on this thread have found reprehensible. We are challenging your OPINIONS.

With ours!

You may want to rethink that epitaph of yours. Doesn't seem to flow well. Need something more catchy, a little cleverer.

While I learn more English, can I enroll the both of us. It is amazing what couple of more years of high school do for us.

Reference to CS offering discounts was a sarcastic remark. I hate it when it goes to waste. Next time I will be more obvious.

Let me try this one, we'll see if it works.
My dad is dead! Your dad can probably beat it. (sorry for my bad English)

"um k?"
OK, that did it.

Now I have a better understanding as to your age.

I am very sorry to have engaged a young one. I didn't know, I just didn't know. My bad.

What is your ICQ #, maybe we'll carry on over there...

If you still want to be my pen pal, feel free to drop a line or two to me of the forum so we don't bore everyone else to tears.

Try ate@chevs.com

Seriously, if you were to go back and read what you wrote you will see the wisdom in my early remarks about digging deeper.

I am done.

I don't mind being the moderator. That is the easy part.
It is being TURK that is getting tough lately.

What's the matter there, Durt.....don't think you could properly moderate all those North Carolina fans who would pop-in on the Kansas B-ball forums??? Doh!

Wow. Once again, I am almost sorry that my post got this whole nasty snowball rolling.

I guess most of you would consider me "one of those CS worshipers". However, some of you guys need to lighten up and take SVObud's comments with a grain of salt.

I personally would never wish Ol' Shel dead. However, I sure wish that fate on the GT-500E's. That's really what this thread was about, right? If you love 'em or hate 'em? Oh well. Since we're not supposed to bag on anybody else's non-Cobra cars in here anymore, I guess that makes me a "Cobra Snob". So be it, then. I'm a Snob. I also hate the ricer-import-tuners, any street car or truck with wheels in excess of 20" in diameter, and vehicles with obnoxiously loud stereos.

So pass the Poupon....or is that poop-on???

Russ,
I am a snob too!
I DON'T like the car either. The price is irrelevant. I don''t like the car even at $60,000.

I suppose talking about in general, we all have our likes and dislikes, and many of us do not hesitate to voice those opinions as long as it doesn't hurt someone.

I am kind a hoping that whoever buys that car is not someone on this forum, otherwise there would be a long line of retractions..
It is when we are ALL COBRA lovers, the snob factor becomes a touchy issue.

Very seldom we tell how we feel about a specific Cobra knowing all too well that there are owners of those cars reading in here.
Users are in general are very courteous and tolerant of all makes and models of Cobras.

The folks in here have been brutal of Corvettes and Chevrolet in genereal, knowing full well that is how I pay my bills.

If I was to get too offended by that, maybe I need to go somewhere where they worship Chevrolets and hate Fords.

I like my car, and I like the friendship here even if we have occasional hick-ups.

You did nothing wrong by starting the thread questioning the value and the looks of that car. I am sorry the thread is nowhere near what the original discussion was about.

Sorry for my own personal contribution to the decaying of a thread.

svobud-

Your comment about Shelby was wrong and you should know it. The fact that you don't just back off from it is a good indicator of a lack of something.....kindness maybe? Stubborness? Either way I don't think you are gaining very many friends on this site with your comment.

One can have an opinion - no one will deny you that - it is just that when your opinion is that someone should have died that you can expect (and get) some heat. The fact that you then take issue with those giving you heat says a lot about you - I bet you have the kind of job where you are always right - even when you aren't.

I am not going to go point for point on anything - this is a dumb discussion - but I will say that Turk does not need or want a cheering section. If you read his posts you will note that what he says is generally spot on....and done with a sense of wit and style that you may want to try to emulate. It seems to have gained him quite a following - try it.

I hope you come back to this thread tomorrow with a different attitude....I think the one you are displaying here tonight is affecting your opinions.

Allow me to impart the wisdom of Soloman before I retire -
On the one hand, I share svobud's sentiments on his initial post. He isn't articulating anything that a great number of replica owners don't already feel.
I can also understand the resentment by others of his choice of words.
In summation, I think everyone is being a little thin-skinned on both sides of the issue and need to take a chill pill.
Have a great week -

Good morning, boys. Nice mess you left here last night.

There appears to be nothing left to say about the thread's topic.

This one's over.
