Default What does S/C stand for?

Alright, now that I've found out what AC means, what does S/C mean? Please pardon the stupid question buy seeing as I plan on building one soon I might as well know what it means!

Thanks!

I believe that it means Street/Competition but there are probably other opinions.

S/C stands for "Street/Competition". I remember reading one of the original articles on the S/C that basically stated the following: "the S/C Cobra is clearly competition but the only streets that you could really drive it on were the Pennsylvania and Ohio turnpikes." The originals were just streetable enough to be able to drive on the street so that they could compete against the Corvette and others.

I've heard it defined as either and both ... just as it's being defined here again. ridelikehell - there's a timeline on the cobratrader.com site that defines S/C as meaning Semi Competition. http://www.cobratrader.com/cobrahistory.html - but just because it's written down and put there for everyone to see doesn't make it the definitive truth. Use whichever definition you want.

I am going to have to go with Semi Competition, that's the way it shows up in all the older documents and books.

Semi Competition

..as stated in several older docs, and including the Shelby Remembering the Early Years book, etc.

Yo, ridelikehell, I've got to jump in here and note that "alot" is not a word. I believe you meant to say "a lot".

(Just doing my part to continually bug Jamo.)

Wilfy, do you want to address "apreciated"?

Oh, S/C = snake charmer.

Actually, according to Shelby, the name comes from the first time someone wearing shorts wasn't careful climbing out of one of these side-piped beasts.

Prariedogging was never a word either until this year. I'm just saying... BTW... Fags use to be had while having a gay old time.

Decimate originally meant the killing of every tenth .10 officer by Roman Army commanders for losing in battle. I have a MYRIAD (literally means 10,000) of others if you are interested.

Thanks alot for listening.

I've heard both and don't have a clue to which is really the case. The original S/C's were real competition 427 Cobras that Shelby couldn't sell (he made a bunch for homologation purposes) so a brilliant marketing guy cooked up the idea of selling them as S/C's. That's why they had the hood scoop, oil cooler, roll bar, and more flare to the fenders, as well as the SW 240 fuel pumps in the trunk, a larger gas tank, and many other features that the street 427's didn't have. Only 36 real S/C's were made, if memory serves me correctly.

...actually, only 30 S/Cs, if you count the twin-turbo (3015).

ridelikehell,
Charlie Beidler Shelby's East Coast Sales Manager came up with the concept of taking the unsold Competition cars sitting on blocks for months and selling them as the "fastest production car in the world" concept, thus was born the "Semi-Competition" (SC) cars beginning with CSX3015 and on to the next 31 cars.
The magazines and like called them Street Competition . The street cars began at CSX3101 leaving a gap in the sequence.

Grump..not quite in sequence from 3015...

CSX3016, 17, 18, 19, and 20....
...then 3026, 28 and 29 were sold as Comp cars (3027 was a chassis-only).

The rest, as you say (up to 3053) were S/Cs
