The XJS's have aluminium dog bones (arms) that would likely be too wide for your application and hard to shorten being aluminium. I think you need XJ (narrowed or aftermarket arms) or XKE, 3.8S type rear ends. Do a search as there's plenty of Jag expertise and info here on types and set up. If you have plenty I'll take a 3.54 BPL centre section! Good hunting.

You could also ask the Kirkhams, and the ERA site may have some info on it. Unique as well.

XJS 70 to 79, These have a 3.54 posi. Most later units came with a 2.88 ratio which is not easy to convert. Make sure you replace the clutch pack and seals if there is more than 60,000 mlies on it, Bearings if more than 100,000 miles

Mike Bontoft who posted above knows more about Jag rears than the rest of us collectively as he is the owner of CWI. There have been rather lengthy articles regarding same in Cobras magazine on several occasions including the 1995 annual edition. Very informative material. I will attempt to scan and post. I think mine is a XJ6 1980-1987 Series III as it has the tapered bearings and a weep hole in the stub axle flange. I have had good luck with it, however, my car is underpowered compared to the rest of you fellas.

hm,

I like to see an underpowered 484 aluminum engine...

I must say I had some beginner's luck with five to seven XJ diffs.
they all lasted without rebuilt. I used ratios from 2.88 to 3.54 (LS)with quite strong engines.

good luck,

dominik
