Thanks all
I'm overwelmed with all the support. My local guy tells me the motor needs more than cosmetic work. He echos the sentiments stated above that the work should be performed by mechanics knowlegable with the FE. He says he can pull it and crate it. I'll be taking bids after that. Once again thanks for all the advice and support, I'll keep you posted.

valpodoc,
I highly recommend George Anderson at Gessford Machine. The attention to detail he provides is beyond fanatical. You will not go wrong.
Congrats on 4047. I too would like to see photos!

I'm a little confused on how CSX4047 which HAS to be a relatively new car, I assume with LOW miles could have a "tired" engine all ready?
I guess, the original buyer put in a "weak" or "used" engine to begin with? Not something I would expect someone to do with a CSX anything!
Then you buy it and NOW they say, "Oh,,,you didn't hear about the motor? It's kind of weak you know." Like NOW you tell me!!!
Strange,,,,,very strange.

Ernie,
4047 could be 6 or more years old.

Apparently the car was owned initially in Texas it was sold two years ago thru a broker to the gentleman I bought it from in San Francisco. He has had the car maintained and stored at Top OF the Hill in Livermore. The car only has 780 miles on the odometer with fewer than one hundred in the last two years. The engine was originally installed in a Shelby GT500 (or so I'm told) and at some time must have seen drag duty as it is fitted with aluminum connecting rods. Needless to say I feel like I'm getting schooled now for not doing my homework up front. I paid $55,000 for thw car and even with a rebuild, hopefully won't feel too bitter
Roland will post pictures tomorrow

Hey DV, I love that "if it ever turns into a job, I quit"! ha ha!
valpodoc, you got a great car at a nice price, I'd STILL be happy! I kind of figured it was a low miles car thus, curious how the engine could be weak all ready. Makes sense the way you describe the transaction.
Now about that GT-500,,,,,not the first time I've heard about a GT-500 engine transplant, and the second GT-500 I've heard about in the last couple of weeks missing the original engine. Which only raises the obvious question. WHO and WHY are these people pulling original motors out of something THAT special in the first place???
Or as Jay Leno once said, "There are about twice as many "original" certified "authentic" Dusenbergs registered as were ever built!"
,,,,it's a head scratcher.

Ernie,
Once I get the block out and compare the numbers with my handy dandy Shelby registry I think all will be clear.

I can't speak for all those GT500 engines that were pulled from the cars, but I have one that was removed by the owner, a lowly airman, that wanted an economical alternative and had a 352 or 390 transplanted. If you know the owner of '67 GT500 , that had the engine removed while at Chanute AFB in the late '60's early '70's, I have the engine.

Hey Val, contact me, I've got valueable information for you and extra pics of your car. I almost bought this car from Eric Thompson, several months earlier. If you like I'll post the information and pics for you.

Valpo if you are unsure of how far to go with reworking the engine just ask Brent about having to do it over...
With such a nice car do it once, and do it right because doing it twice just sucks eggs.

Because you're located in the midwest, you may want to consider having John Vermeersch and Total Performance have a look at your engine.
John is in Suburban Detroit and works with Ford Racing. He's been building FE engines for over 30 years. He recently completed a 428FE with a dual quad set up for me and I could not be more pleased. There's a picture of it in my gallery.

Well packed up the car and sent it off with Rich Lacy (couldn't be a nicer guy). She's on her way to Gessford. At least I'll sleep better at night now.
